Vanguard Newspaper Retracts ‘False’ Story On Aregbesola’s Son, Apologizes‏

The publishers of Vanguard Newspapers have tendered an unreserved apology to Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State and his family over a report it carried concerning one of the governor’s sons, Abdulkabir.

The newspaper had in its Friday edition published a story with the headline: “Controversy trails Aregbesola’s son’s alleged arrest” and quoted a source as confirming Abdulkabir’s arrest at the Murtala International Airport, Lagos, for money laundering.

In retracting the report, which it discovered to be false in its entirety as no son of the governor was arrested, Vanguard apologized for any embarrassment the story must have caused Mr. Aregbesola and his family.

“We have since discovered that the report was false in its entirety as no son of Governor Aregbesola was arrested as reported.

“We hereby tender our sincere apology for the embarrassment the story must have caused the governor and his family”, the newspaper said.
