Northern youths, under the aegis of Arewa Youth Forum, have warned ex-militant leader, Asari Dokubo against unguarded and inciting utterances, saying the ex-militant ought to bury his head in shame for his unpatriotic attitude.
Speaking on behalf of the Forum on Friday, its President, Gambo Gujungu, said it was obvious that Asari Dokubo lacked proper upbringing and morals, otherwise he would be quiet by now after his prophesy of doom failed, adding that the ex-militant should recount all his unguarded utterances in the build-up to the 2015 general elections.
“Before the 2015 general elections, the likes of Asari Dokubo and others from the Niger Delta region were spitting fire that Nigeria would disintegrate should President Goodluck Jonathan lose his re-election bid. They saw Mr President as a Niger Delta President, which is very unpatriotic of them.
“Asari Dokubo should wake up from his slumber and face the reality on ground. It was people like him who caused the downfall of Jonathan through their tribal sentiments and unpatriotic attitude. Now, they have lost power in the centre, and it will take a long time before power returns to the Niger Delta.
“The North, unlike the South-south, will always work for the overall interest of the country. No past president or head of state from the North has ever ruled the country with tribal sentiments. And we want to state here, categorically, that the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, is first and foremost, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and his actions will always be guided by the Constitution,” Gujungu noted.
In another development, Gambo Gujungu has called on the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari to consider the establishment of North-east Development Commission to cater for the reconstruction, recovery and rehabilitation of the region which, according to him, had been devastated by the Boko Haram insurgency.
Gujungu argued that it is only by doing so that the North-east could recover fast from the colossal damage caused by Boko Haram, saying, “in all fairness, the North-east, which gave the President-elect an overwhelming support in the 2015 presidential election in spite of the Boko Haram insurgency, deserves a development commission to fast-track its recovery and development.”
