The Bayelsa Development Forum, BDF, has announced an elaborate plan to host President Goodluck Jonathan to a “heroic welcome reception”, as he prepares to vacate office come May 29, 2015 and return to the state.
This is contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the Secretary-General of BDF, Ebimo Anderson.
Mr. Jonathan made history when he became the first Nigerian incumbent president to lose an election and even before the final results were formally announced, concede defeat to the winner, Muhammadu Buhari, of the All Progressives Congress.
The Forum said it has already sent a written letter to the Bayelsa State Government to intimate it of its plan to host the welcome reception for Mr. Jonathan.
It said it also requested the support of the Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, to enable it effectively mobilize Bayelsans across the state to turn out en-mass for the event.
While commending what it said were the achievements of the Jonathan administration in national cohesion and economic development, the BDF said the president’s record of service to the nation will not easily be forgotten.
“As Ijaw people and proud Bayelsans, even though, we are deeply pained by the loss of our son at the polls, we are grateful to God and Nigerians for entrusting one of our own with the responsibility of leading this great nation at a time when it was thought impossible that a minority from the South-South will hold the highest office in the land”, Mr. Anderson said.
“We are indeed glad that President Jonathan did not disappoint us as a nation by his sterling leadership and in the process making history”.
The statement further thanked Governor Dickson for his unalloyed support and loyalty to Mr. Jonathan all through his presidency and called on Bayelsans to ignore every propaganda and campaign of calumny against the governor allegedly being perpetrated by a senator, Heineken Lokpobiri, on social media.
Mr. Dickson had come under fire from Nigerians after a viral video showed him leading youth, suspected to be thugs, to disrupt proceedings at the Federal High Court, Bayelsa Division, while armed security personnel either looked the other way or aided the attackers as they destroyed property within the court premises.
Mr. Anderson claimed that the video is fake.
