South African women narrate discrimination they face for marrying Nigerian men

South African women married to Nigerian men have narrated the discrimination they face for marrying men outside their country. Seeing the disaffection their kinsmen show them after finding love in the hands of Nigerian men, the women decided to form an association, the United Nigerian Wives in South Africa (UNWISA) club about two years ago where they give support and succor to each other.

42 year old Lindwela Uche who serves as the chairwoman of the group told AFP that they saw the xenophobic attacks coming and alerted their husbands but they did not take their warning seriously "We saw this thing coming and that’s why we formed this association. If only they (the authorities) had listened to us… they would have known that there’s a fire burning slowly and they would have seen how to tackle it.”she said.

One of the members of the association,“Lufunu Orji who is married to a Nigerian resource consultant, Ogbonnaya Orji, says being married to a foreigner is very challenging
"Being married to a foreigner is very challenging. You often spend your time defending yourself and then you defend your foreign husband for being himself. Just before I got wed to my husband, I lost two very best friends of mine. They thought I was out of my mind" she said

Another member of the group who gave her name as Uche, said her 13-year-old daughter returned from school a while ago, complaining that her teacher had told her “not to bring that Nigerian mentality here” after she and classmates were noisy in class.

We need to be protected, we need our children to be protected… and our husbands to be treated with dignity,” Uche said

37 year old Thelma Okoro, says the attitude towards them “are negative everywhere we go,”. According to her, wearing traditional Nigerian dress on the street can attract bad comments. She spoke of how her eight-year-old daughter gets mocked by schoolmates over her name “Ngozi” which means “blessing” in Igbo but literally translates to “danger” in Zulu.

50-Year-Old Man r*pes 12-Year-Old Girl In Osun

A 50-year-old man, Tajudeen Omole, was on Sunday arraigned before an Osogbo chief magistrate court by the Osun State Police command for allegedly defiling a 12-year-old girl. The accused person was said to have committed the offence on November 27.

According to TV Continental, the accused went to the house of the victim to see her sister, who he claimed was a friend. When he learnt that the sister was not home, he allegedly lured the victim into a room in the house where he defiled her.

The girl was said to have attempted to scream for help but was over-powered by Mr. Omole. She later narrated her ordeal to her neighbours who facilitated his arrest. The police prosecutor, Solomon Oladele, told the court that the offence committed was contrary to and punishable under Section 218 of the criminal code cap 34 vol II laws of Osun State, Nigeria, 2003.

The counsel to the accused, Okobe Nagite, applied for the bail of the accused person on liberal terms. The presiding magistrate, Olusola Aluko, in his ruling, however, ordered that the accused be remanded in Ilesha prison while the counsel to the accused should file a formal application for his bail.

Maltreated, Exploited And Confused: A Sad Blog Reader Needs Your Help

‘’I am 21 years old; I came to the city early this year to look for a source of livelihood. Before I embarked on this journey, I pleaded with my (married) cousin to allow me stay with his family. He agreed and even offered to help me secure a job (since I was yet to gain admission into the University) but since then; he has neither found the job for me nor talked about it. I assist his wife with domestic chores-even cooking for them (not minding that she is a house wife), they do not even provide my needs (my family’s economic situation is not encouraging at the moment).I am serving them with the hope that they would want to be contributing to my school expenses when I gain admission into the University eventually. Whenever my cousin’s wife sends me to the market to buy foodstuffs, the ‘message’(to go to the market) will come with an instruction that I should start cooking as soon as I am back from the market and only disturb her when I am done with the cooking. She tells me that I am a good cook. Last week (Monday), I went to the market, came back and started cooking, as usual. When I was through with the cooking, I went to inform her. She became so angry and insulted me thoroughly, asking ‘who made me her cook’. I became depressed afterwards and refused to eat. She reacted by isolating her children from me (she would not let them play with me) and she started handling the cooking by herself. She has threatened to kick me out of her house. Now, I am frustrated because she does not allow me to handle any chores in the house any more, she only gives me food when she pleases. Sometimes, I am made to understand that the food that was left open in the kitchen (with flies all over it) is mine. I am awaiting the University admission list to be released. My spirit is troubled. Please advise me on what to do because I am very confused and depressed now. If I leave their house because of the way she has been treating me, I do not think I will get a dime from them to pay my school fees. I do not want to make any mistakes (that will cause me my education) with them. The husband (my cousin) is aware of what’s going on. He even called me stupid."

Outrage in Adamawa After Gov. Bala Spends N400M on 4 Cars

The decision of the Adamawa state governor, Bala Ngilari to buy two Lexus SUVs for N180million ($900,000) and two Hilux pick up vans at N400million, has triggered outrage from members of the state House of Assembly.

On Wednesday, the members passed a resolution calling on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to probe the purchases.

The House, now split into factions, called on the state government to re-instate the sacked Director General of the state Public Procurement Bureau, Malam Bello Umar, who it said was sacked by the Governor for querying the purchase and for not following due process.

Deputy Speaker, Kwamoti Laori, told the house that the state government had sacked the Director General of the state Public Procurement Bureau after whistle-blowing on the executive recklessness.

Laori also claimed the Lexus cars were used ones.

While a used Lexus armoured car can go for about $120,000, a new one usually sells for less than $200,000, online research shows, PM News reports.

"We Are Heading to South Africa to Bomb Them For Killing Nigerians" - Boko Haram Alleged

The dreaded Boko Haram insurgents has been spotted in Zimbabwe in transit to South Africa, according to reports by UK-based news outlet ZimEye, citing Zimbabwe’s national intelligence agency.

According to the Zimbabwean news website, the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) issued an intelligence report, warning that the Islamist militant group is in Zimbabwe en route to neighbouring South Africa.

ZimEye added that the South African intelligence service has alerted police officers in Zimbabwe’s Matebeleland region about Boko Haram’s intentions to infiltrate South Africa.

Other Zimbabwean media outlets have picked up the story. One outlet, Harare24, claims, “Officers were yesterday called for duty at around 9pm and are now temporarily stationed at selected police stations where they camp.”

iHarare reports that police spokespersons have not responded to a request for clarification on the original ZimEye report, and official statements from the government of Zimbabwe regarding Boko Haram’s potential presence in Zimbabwe do not appear to exist.

The Matebeleland region borders South Africa, where the jihadist group may seek to “carry out revenge attacks for the ill-treatment of several Nigerian nationals in the ongoing xenophobic attacks” that have left seven people dead and displaced thousands more from their homes, notes the news website.

Boko Haram released propaganda this month threatening to kill South Africans in retribution for the wave of xenophobic violence affecting Nigerians and others in that nation, though it was believed that Boko Haram members would find and kill South Africans in the areas where they operate: Northeast Nigeria, Chad and Cameroon.

Boko Haram reportedly released a video nearly two weeks ago urging South Africa to end the xenophobic attacks taking place within its borders.

Zimbabwe’s online news outlet iHarare reports that in the video, which has not yet been verified as authentic, Boko Haram warned that it would execute all South Africans in Nigeria, Chad, Niger, and other surrounding countries if the government of South Africa failed to contain the situation.

5 Things You Must Expect From Your Man

At an early age I realized a few things in life. One of them is that people are going to treat you the way you let them treat you. When you have low expectations, you don’t get much from folks. But when you raise the bar—showing people that you know your worth and nothing less than respect will do—well, people tend to shape up or find their way out of your life.

When we enter a relationship, the most important thing we need to do is set the tone from the very beginning. The moment you allow a man to disrespect who you are in any way, it sends a clear message about what you will allow in your space. Setting the bar low and accepting behavior that leaves you feeling less than, shows the man in your life that you will accept a whole lot, even if it’s dead wrong.

Having expectations doesn’t mean you are difficult or demanding. It simply means that you know who you are and what you deserve, and you have no interest in settling for less. If you ask me, that’s best way to start off any relationship in your life, not just a romantic one.

Here are five things I think all women should and must expect from the man they decide to be with. If you expect anything less, you are selling yourself short.

1. Consistent Respect.
I have no interest in being with a man that respects me sometimes. If a man cannot respect you all the time, he doesn’t respect you at all. And respecting you doesn’t mean that he agrees with everything you do or say; it just means that he honors who you are as a woman—as a person—and he treats you with a level of respect that is reflective of that honor.

2. Support and Encouragement.
Your man should support and encourage you in every possible way. Whether you are struggling with family issues, or trying to sort through your professional vision for your life. He should be there offering the right words and doing the right things to show you that he’s got your back.

3. Kindness.
It costs nothing to be kind, so anyone who is unable to treat you kindly is a jerk. Kindness is really just about making another person feel the way you would want to feel. Honestly, we learned this stuff in kindergarten. If a grown man can’t treat his lady with kindness, he is not the right man for you.

4. Dependability.
There is nothing worse than a person you just can’t rely on—whether he’s your man or not. When you are involved with someone on a romantic level, you need to know that you can depend on him. Broken promises and being MIA when you need him the most, are just the beginning of a journey you do not want to take.

5. Trustworthiness.
If your man has lied to you in the past and as a result, you just don’t trust him, you have a big problem. You have to determine if you are able to forgive the lie and move on, depending on what it was. Trust is the cornerstone of a healthy relationship, though, so without trust you can find yourself struggling to truly be happy with this man. A man that can’t keep his word is not a man worth keeping.

3 Signs You’re Committing Financial Infidelity In Your Marriage

Financial infidelity can do as much harm to your marriage as a romantic infidelity. Since marriage is part romance and part finance (i.e. running a household, setting common life and financial goals), when you find your spouse engaging in financial behaviors that lack transparency, hide the truth, and/or purposefully obscure the financial realities of your household, you are threatening the longevity of your marriage.

Here are three signs that you’re committing financial infidelity in your marriage and what you should do about it.

1. Hiding bills.
Hiding bills from your spouse creates a wall between you and your partner. Not only that, hiding bills paints an inaccurate picture of your financial landscape, which can worsen your family’s finances in the short term and long term. When you don’t allow your partner to have an authentic position in the relationship to communicate goals, the trust erodes and resentment can build. If you are hiding bills, you need to come clean with your partner about what bills you are hiding and why.

2. Paying the bills of financially enabled family members without telling your spouse.
When you marry, your spouse and your family needs become a priority. This is not to say that you shouldn’t help out your family members, but if you are doing this behind your spouse’s back, you are betraying your spouse’s financial trust. On top of that, you are taking food out of their mouth or your children’s mouths, when you reallocate joint money (or personal money) to someone else.

If you have a family member that struggles and you want to support them, then you will need to be transparent with your spouse about how much you want to give. You may find that your spouse may be in agreement. If they are not, be willing to actively listen to their concerns and reach a fair agreement that empowers the family member and protects your family’s wealth.

3. Keeping secret accounts.
This one is pretty deep. If you are maintaining a secret account from your spouse and they find out about it, be prepared to spend a lot of time repairing the trust in your marriage. This is assuming that they are willing to speak to you and haven’t put you out of the house. Keeping secret accounts is a big sign that you are not 100% present in your marriage and it may indicate that you are planning for the worse.

Unlike agreeing to keep separate accounts (in addition to joint accounts), a decision to keep secret accounts shows that you thinking only about yourself. Before you start toying with the idea of keeping a secret account, think deeply about the impact that it will have on your marriage. Moreover, it may be worthwhile to speak to a counselor about your trepidations about marriage, your relationship with money, and what conflicting feelings you have with merging money and marriage.

Boko Haram: Rescued girls undergo pregnancy, HIV tests

The military authorities have taken the 293 women and girls rescued by the Special Forces during a raid on the dreaded Sambisa Forest to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Maiduguri, Borno State.

An intelligence officer, who made this known to one of our correspondents on Wednesday, also said the women and girls were undergoing a series of tests, including pregnancy and HIV in the hospital.

The officer also said that seven of the girls had gunshot injuries which were being treated by the medical officials of the UMTH.

Findings indicated that out of the 293 ladies, 200 were aged between 13 and 18, the age brackets of the Chibok schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram insurgents on April 14, 2014.

When one of our correspondents contacted the Director, Defence Information, Maj. Gen. Chris. Olukolade, to confirm the officer’s information on the rescued females, he said, “We will talk about it when we are through; we are busy moving them off the line of duty for a thorough screening.

“The military would do everything to take care of them and make them feel not traumatised.”

Our source explained that the military would on Thursday (today) commence a holistic investigation of the identities of the girls and women after the tests and treatment.

Another officer reevaled that the DHQ was being careful with saying who the women and girls were to avoid mistakes.

He said, “This is a sensitive matter that has to be handled with serious caution. You cannot say before the commencement of the investigation that they are the Chibok girls or not.

“Another thing is that you cannot start asking them if they are from Chibok because of the harrowing experiences or trauma they have gone through.

“Clearly, it would be too early for anybody to say that Chibok girls are among them or not; they are under custody; they went through trauma and we want to them to have some relief. Those with medical requirements are being treated.

“But the military is very careful. There is the need to ascertain their true identities.

“There would be individual interrogation of each of those rescued, to ascertain their link with the sect.”

However, the Borno State Government said on Wednesday that most of the ladies were from Bumsiri, a village in Damboa Local Government Area of the state.

The state’s Commissioner for Information, Mohammed Bulama, told journalists in Maiduguri that, “The girls and women rescued are our daughters just like the Chibok girls. We have to commend the military for liberating them, hoping that the rest will equally be liberated.

“Though everyone had thought they were the Chibok girls, but we should not lose sight that they are as important as the Chibok girls.

“At the moment, we are looking forward to the time the 293 women/girls would be handed over to us so that we can begin the process of rehabilitating and reintegrating them into the society.”

Also, the Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima, described the military operation as “gratifying regardless of whether or not the rescued women formed part of the over 200 schoolgirls abducted by insurgents in 2014.”

Shettima, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Isa Gusau, said, “I am so full of excitement and gratitude to God. I commend our gallant armed forces for this great feat. For me, the lives, safety and welfare of all citizens of Borno State are of equal importance.

“However, this rescue is also very dear to me. I am as pleased as much as I would be when the Chibok schoolgirls are rescued by the special grace of God. I am very optimistic, prayerful and supportive of the military’s ongoing rescue and counter-insurgency operations.

“We won’t give up on the Chibok schoolgirls like I said two weeks ago. No sane parent gives up on a missing child.

“I have daughters and I know the love of a parent to the girl child. For now, it is better to allow the military handle things, conduct their investigations and ascertain the identities of those rescued but irrespective of the identities of the girls, we are very happy that they have been rescued whether they are citizens of Borno or anywhere else.

“We have abiding faith in God that He will see us through these times and we shall overcome the temporary but traumatic moment of grief. God will set Chibok girls and all Nigerians free from fear and the brutality of Boko Haram insurgents and others in their league.”

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Labour Congress has appealed to the abductors of the Chibok girls to embrace reconciliation and release them.

A Deputy President of the NLC, Mr. Peters Adeyemi, said, “We use the opportunity to join in the call for the release of the Chibok girls; we plead with those who abducted them to release them in the spirit of national rebirth and lay down their arms to give way to a reconciliatory dialogue for peace and stability of the nation.”

Buhari’s ex-campaign coordinator attacked by DSS

The Anambra State Coordinator of the Muhammadu Buhari Presidential Campaign Organisation in the 2007 presidential elections, Chief Ifeanyichukwu Nwokoye, was on Monday brutalised by men of the Department of State Service.

The DSS operatives reportedly beat Nwokoye to the extent that his sight had been affected.

Nwokoye alleged that he was brutalised because he refused to release information about 22 expatriate medical doctors invited by the Anambra State government for free medical mission in the state.

As of the time of filing this report on Wednesday, Nwokoye was receiving treatment at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Awka.

But the DSS said Nwokoye was to be blamed because he allegedly held its men hostage in his hotel.

This, the DSS explained, necessitated the agency to send its operatives to the hotel to rescue the men.

The state DSS Director, Alex Okeiyi, told newsmen that the command had concluded arrangements to take Nwokoye to court for assault.

Okeiyi said, “People should learn to respect security operatives because we are working for them. Securing Anambra is at a cost, people should help us; our men are being targeted by hoodlums all the time.”

But Nwokoye insisted that the DSS men bundled him and his wife to the agency’s office at Amawbia and humiliated them.

He said, “I was handcuffed with my wife like common criminals. I have never seen such a thing all my life, the retina of my eyes has been damaged. I was humiliated for no offence committed.

“I was in the hotel when these people walked in, three of them, they said they had information that some expatriates were quartered in the hotel and they demanded for the photocopies of their passports.

“I demanded for their identities because we did not know them and the security situation in the land is terrible. They refused and one of them banged his hand on the table in anger, shouting that they will deal with me for refusing to cooperate with them.

“At that point, I moved outside the room and called the Divisional Police Officer at the Central Police Station and ordered the people to lock the hotel gate; that was all. It is like they called their office for reinforcement and about 20 minutes later, they came in siren-blaring vehicles.

“They started beating my wife and me. They handcuffed us and bundled us into their vehicle and took us to their office, where we were dumped in a cell. As if that was not enough, they brought me out after they had removed my shirt, trousers and underwear, but their boss came out and ordered them to clothe me.

“One of the men later came and kicked me at the lower part of my body and I fainted. When I regained consciousness, I saw myself on a stretcher in their clinic; that was exactly what happened.”

A government official, who pleaded not to be named, said the DSS operatives were wrong for the assault on Nwokoye.

The official said, “Why would they demand the photocopies and identities of the medical doctors brought in by the government to treat the indigent and less-privileged persons in the state?

“Why didn’t they contact the government and inquire from us?”

I don’t have a team, says Keshi

Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi has made a most shocking admission that he does not have a team as he begins his second stint in charge of Nigeria.

Keshi, who led Nigeria to AFCON glory in 2013 after a 19-year wait, recently penned a fresh two-year contract to continue as the country’s coach.

However, the former Mali and Togo handler noted, “The team that helped us win the AFCON in 2013 is no longer in place.

“We don’t presently have a team. We would have to start from scratch to build a formidable team that Nigerians would be proud of.

My plan is to start with the local-based players, like I did the last time and then look for fit and in-form players from outside the shores of the country.
“It’s sad that most of our players are not getting regular action in their clubs but we pray that this improves.”

Keshi further added, “You know most times when we meet we would have about three days together so mostly it would be tactical work we would be doing.”

Nigeria begin the campaign to qualify for the 2017 AFCON in June against Chad at home.

I Worked to Raise $6,000 for Libyan Pimp ─ Schoolgirl

Precious Nwaigwe, the 15-year-old schoolgirl, who was kidnapped in the Ajah area of Lagos State about a year ago, has said she was made to work for $6,000 the Libyan pimp paid to buy her.

She added that after paying the money, she was again used as collateral for a 500 Libyan dinars (N50,000) loan. She also stated that her abductors conducted pregnancy tests on her three different times, which were negative.

The schoolgirl, who was released on Friday, spoke to PUNCH Metro on Monday in Ikeja, Lagos.

She said she saw more than 1,000 Nigerian girls, who were also forced to work for the money paid by
the pimps to the human traffickers.

Precious was kidnapped in May, 2014 while returning to her school, Ikenne Community College, Ikenne, Ogun State. Her parents were contacted by the kidnappers in the Niger Republic, about two months after, demanding $100,000 (N19.9m) as a ransom.

Policemen from the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, and the Special Anti-Robbery Squad went to different parts of the country to arrest suspects.

A principal suspect and cousin of the victim, Kelvin Okito, was said to have eventually made a call to his accomplices in Libya, asking them to free the victim. She returned to Lagos on Friday.

Precious said she would never forgive her cousin for betraying her trust.

She said she was actually abducted in Ode Remo, Ogun State after she stumbled on some cultists en route to her school in Ikenne.

She said;
“When I left Sangotedo Park in Ajah for school, I was the only one in the vehicle, so the driver dropped me off at Ibeju Lekki. I got another vehicle from there, which took me to Ode Remo around 9pm. I could not find a cab that would take me to Ikenne where my school is. I did not know they were having a festival that day and people had been asked to stay indoors.

I trekked for about two hours until I stumbled on some people who were talking. I discovered they were cultists and they accused me of eavesdropping. They added that I knew their secrets. The ladies among them descended on me.
After the ladies were done beating me, they asked the men in the group to take turns to rape me.”

She said she faintly heard a man in the group protesting the decision. She said the man, who she later identified as Seun, took her to Ojota in Lagos.

She said Seun took care of her for two weeks, while she recuperated from her injuries.

Precious added:
“One day, he said he wanted to help me to get eyedrop because my eyes were swollen. I begged him to allow me to follow him, at least to see the sun. He obliged me and while we were going, my slippers cut and I went back into the house to pick another one. I was on my way when I saw Kelvin (Okito) my maternal cousin.”

The Ohaozara, Ebonyi State indigene, said she narrated her ordeal to Okito, thinking that he would rescue her.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Okito, however, took her to the Alaba area of Lagos and connived with his friend, John, to sell the 15-year-old to John’s elder brother, identified as Nzube Chukwu. Chukwu was said to be based in Libya.

She explained that Okito deceived her that he had discussed with her mother to take her to Libya where she would continue her education.

She said:
He said he had called my mum and told her he was taking me on a journey to Libya. I pleaded with him to allow me talk to her, but he said my mum was happy that I was going to Libya, where I would continue my education.”

She said together with some other migrants, they spent four days on the road before reaching Agadez in the Niger Republic. She said at that point, her co-travellers told her that it was a journey of life and death.

She said:
“We spent four days on our journey to Agadez in the Niger Republic. The other people with me said it was a journey of life and death. I managed to get a phone, called my mum and asked her for money so I could return to Nigeria. They discovered the phone that I used to call my mum and they seized it. I was made to stay indoors in Agadez for three weeks.”

She said they later started the journey to Libya and spent seven days in the desert, adding that some people died on the way.

We got to Bra in Libya seven days after. I met the wife of the man (Chukwu) and she asked me if I had been told what I was there for. I said, ‘Yes, to continue my school.’

I was taken to a place where there were so many girls wearing only pants and bras. I told them to wear their clothes. But they laughed at me and said, ‘this one is a JJC (naive)’,” she added.
Precious said the woman told her she had bought her and she must work to pay back the money.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the woman told her she would pay $6,000, including transport, accommodation and feeding costs. She said when she did not cooperate, she was beaten up.

Every night, they would torture me with cigarette stubs. They locked me up in a room and beat me up,” she added.

Our correspondent learnt that the practice in the area was that every day’s job was documented in a notebook. At the end of the month, the total money made by each of the girls would be tabulated and divided into two.

The money would then be shared ─ one part for accommodation and feeding, and the other for transport cost incurred while travelling down to Libya.

Precious said she had pleaded with a man that had indicated interest to sleep with her on a night, to allow her make a call with his phone. She said she called Okito and told him she was suffering, begging him to talk to the woman to allow her go.

Okito was said to have assured the 15-year-old that he would do something.

She said:
“But I paid the money back on my own. The man (Chukwu), who sold me to the woman, then came back and started making trouble again.”

It was learnt that Chukwu later used the victim to borrow 500 dinars (about N50,000). She said she was relocated to another part of the town, Baladia.

Precious said she was accused of sleeping with Chukwu and was subjected to three pregnancy tests, which were negative. While working to raise the 500 dinars, she said she met a Nigerian named Soni (Sunday). The two were said to have become friends.

PUNCH Metro was told that policemen at the SCID and SARS, in the course of investigations, arrested John and Okito in Lagos.

John’s brother, Chukwu, was said to have threatened Precious that she would not be allowed to return to Nigeria until the police in Nigeria released John. However, Soni helped the victim to pay the money and insisted that the victim was no longer in captivity and Chukwu could not decide her fate.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Soni, who worked as a tiles contractor in Libya, arranged Precious’ transport to Lagos.

She told our correspondent that while preparing to return home, the pimp in Libya urged her to recruit girls from Lagos.

Boko Haram is a fraud – Buhari

A statement from Gen Buhari signed by his media aide, Shehu Garba.

“The fraud called Boko Haram can be defeated by denying it a recruitment base,” General Buhari told visiting leaders of Nassarawa State who came to congratulate him on his emergence as President-elect. No religion allows for the killing of children in school dormitory, in markets and places of worship. They have nothing to do with religion. They are terrorists and we are going to deal with them as they deal with terrorists anywhere,” he announced.

Buhari said he is greatly pained by the destruction of schools in the North-eastern part of the country, an action he said could deny thousands of youngsters access to education and a better future unless something was done urgently to avert this tragedy.

“The worst thing anybody can do is to deny children access to education. That will be destructive to their lives and we are not going to allow that to happen,” the President-elect assured.
He announce that his government will help the states to get more money to improve infrastructure by ensuring that all federally collectible revenues are paid directly into the federation account and each tier of government given its due share.

“As at now, the government does not even know how many revenue accounts it has. We will give all the tiers what is due to them but will hold them to be accountable as we would the federal government.”

Buhari while describing Nassarawa state as his own “political laboratory”, meaning the only CPC-controlled state of the 36 others adjudged the experiment as having been a success.
“From one state, I now have 22 political laboratories.”
He commended Governor Al-Makura for surviving his many impeachment plots, saying “without Nassarawa, there would not have been an APC.”

Buhari bans AIT from covering activities – sad for our democracy – Lawyer

I’m sharing this because people in the media should be a little scared of what happened yesterday. If they can do this to AIT, they can come for the rest of us. And before you know it, we can no longer write what we want. I hope it doesn’t come to that. A lawyer shares his opinion. Read below…

Maybe I should attempt to open our eyes just a little to what is actually going on: ‘Buhari bans AIT from covering his activities’. This is nothing for you to rejoice about that AIT sponsored hate campaign and so it’s a good response. No! It isn’t. It is just a true reflection of the 1984 hatred for critics and the press. Indeed, you may repackage a despot, but he is what he is.

I laugh when I remember his words at Chatham house: “so I present to you, a former dictator and a ‘born-again’ democrat’. Like really? Do you realize that one Cardinal part of this democracy is the freedom of the press?  Perhaps he understands the role of the media in bringing down GEJ and maybe scared of same.

Let me take you back a little, do you know the APC legislators, last year sponsored a bill to control the press? to be specific, social media?  Do you realize that severally as a dictator, Mr. President-Elect called the media, ‘a distraction’.

What then is the lesson?

While I do not subscribe to ANY form of unprofessionalism in the media, this is democracy, you can sue for defamation, except of cos you think they are saying the truth. Further you could prosecute for sedition (that’s what I’ll do to Sahara reporters if I were GEJ). You do not blacklist the media.  It only starts with AIT and then possibly it will spread to other channels. Then we would have a ‘controlled media’.

But then again, let this cloud that is gathered yield us some fruits, ‘cos the NextGeneration is patiently waiting to kick all of you out.  Just wait and see!

4 Personality Traits That Make You an Effective Leader

What makes a good leader? Which personality traits do the best trailblazers share? Every organization has its own benchmarks for determining who would make the best head of its teams, but are those qualities really all that different?

Research in the field suggests that, on a broad level, employees and employers are looking for similar characteristics in their leaders -- no matter what business they're in. Here are four personality traits that people want in a boss.

1. Honesty
Results form a November 2014 Pew Research Center Survey showed that 84 percent of the 1,835 respondents considered honesty the most essential personality trait for any leader.

Honest leaders inspire not just through words but through actions. They're the kind of leaders who build their teams from the ground up. They understand that effective leadership is built on trust, and that honesty in leadership generates a stronger team dynamic. Honest interactions with employees build the kind of relationships that make success in the workplace attainable for the entire team -- not just the boss.

2. Openness
In the world of personality evaluation, openness is one of the Big Five dimensions of personality that psychologists use to evaluate individuals. It refers to how open an individual is to new experiences and how imaginative and insightful an individual can be.

In 2014, strength-based leadership development experts Jack Zenger and Joseph Folkman performed an analysis of the 33 top leaders at a major telecommunications organization and established 10 personality traits that made those leaders effective. Some of their findings included creating a culture that magnifies upward communication (being open to ideas from all sources); setting stretch goals (keeping an open mind to find dynamic ways to achieve organizational goals); and emphasizing speed (defined as encouraging ideas to be tested first and discussed -- and picked apart -- later). While the study only focused on 33 leaders from one organization, Zenger and Folkman noted their results were consistent with their analysis of leaders from hundreds of organizations across a wide range of industries.

Good leaders encourage a culture where every team member’s ideas are heard and valued. They're open and imaginative -- and they encourage those traits in their employees.

3. Decisiveness
Leaders make decisions.

Without fail, leaders are regularly called on to make choices that impact both the organization and the people they lead. People want to follow a person who weighs all the options and, as Zenger and Folkman discovered in their research, “Display fearless loyalty to doing what’s right for the organization.” In other words, good leaders make important decisions based on what’s best for the organization -- and they make them confidently.

4. Conscientiousness
Pew respondents say organization (67 percent) and compassion (57 percent) are important, and Zenger and Folkman believe in strategic vision. And each of these are components of conscientiousness.

Conscientiousness is a measure of how organized, thoughtful and forward-thinking an individual is. Good leaders are highly organized, both individually and when it pertains to their teams; they sympathize with their employees and provide thoughtful feedback and support; and they have both short-term and long-term goals for the team that drive the team’s everyday projects.

Bill Gates, commenting on leadership in the 21st century, once said, “As we look ahead into the next century, leaders will be those who empower others." Good leaders do more than just inspire others through action, they empower the people they work with by building trust, encouraging and being open to creative solutions, making confident decisions that reflect the best interests of their employees and organization, and being thoughtful, organized strategic planners who think about the bigger picture and how all their employees contribute to that success.

What personality traits do you think a good leader has to have? What makes the leaders in your organization stand out?

South Africa and Nigeria clash over xenophobic violence

South Africa has criticised Nigeria for recalling its ambassador in the wake of a wave of xenophobic violence in the country, calling it an "unfortunate and regrettable step". In a strongly worded statement , Pretoria said: "If this action is based on the incidents of attacks on foreign nationals in some parts of our country, it would be curious for a sisterly country to want to exploit such a painful episode for whatever agenda."

Xenophobia: Nigerian Men are Snatching our Wives – South African Politician

South African politician, Makashule Gana, has said that some of his compatriots complained to him that they are angry with Nigerians and other immigrants because they snatched their girlfriends.

Gana, a Deputy Federal Chairperson of Democratic Alliance, made this disclosure at an anti-xenophobia rally, held at Constitution Hill.

South African newspaper, City Press, reports that Gana advised that rather than get angry and take the anger out on foreigners, South African men should “provide” properly for women, instead of lashing out at non-nationals for “stealing” women away.

“If you can’t speak to a girl, now all of a sudden a man that comes from Zimbabwe or Nigeria that can speak to a girl now must be killed. What is that?
So I ask my fellow brothers from South Africa, if you want a woman please go speak up, don’t go around and killing someone from Nigeria because they can speak up for themselves. Speak out because it is important,” he told the crowd.

Gana urged the crowd at the rally to spread the message of not taking part in xenophobic attacks to “our wives, girlfriends, boyfriends, makhwaphenis (secret lovers), neighbours and brothers”. He also urged South Africans to look at themselves and not blame non-nationals for stealing their jobs when these jobs didn’t exist in the first place.

Go and start a spaza shop,” advised Gana.

OMG !!! Blog Reader's Fiancee Calls The Cops on Him

‘’Hello Lady Laila Ijeoma, I sent this mail yesterday but you didnt post it so I am sending it again. Please share it today because I am in a dilemma. My Name is Greg. I have been following your blog for almost 2years now and I sometimes comment as Anonymous. I am 33 years old. An employed professional. In a relationship with a lady (who is in between jobs) and she is 31 years old. We are both from Anambra state. I met her over a year ago and gave her a ring early this year. She lives in Lagos while I stay in Abuja but she visits me. I also take care of her needs to the best of my capability. Recently, she visited my base and while she was seeing her friend that called on us off, her phone (which I bought for her) started ringing. The setting on her phone is such that the pictures of those on her Black Berry contact are synchronized with their phone numbers in her phonebook. So the picture of this particular caller had a guy (the caller) carrying my girl at a beach or something. I didn’t pick the call but the caller immediately sent her an sms-questioning where she is and why she didn’t pick his call. Out of curiosity-I started going through her text messages and my heart sank. The reason why she guards her phone with so much alertness dawned on me. At least she has about three other guys that she talks seriously with-relationship wise. When she came back from seeing her friend off, I sought to know who the man was to her and the explanation for the picture (of him carrying her at a beach),she snatched her phone from me and started arguing with me…out of anger, I smashed the phone against the wall and mistakenly slapped her. the next thing my girl did shocked me…she started making calls and asking some friends to arrange for a police man for her. I thought it was a joke but a police man did show up at my door step and flashed his id card to me. It took my working my phone to get the police man off my back because a call from ‘up there’ also instructed him to abort his mission in my house. My girl and I never spoke for like three days. She didn’t beg. Although I was coming home to a clean house and cooked meals…something she had never done since I met her. She even washed my car at a point. We have always eaten out. She stays put in the bedroom and I sleep on the couch, sometimes pretending to be very busy with work but when I could not bear it anymore, I brought out transport fare and asked her to feel free to leave whenever she decides. She took the money but didn’t leave that same day. She left about two days later and has been bombarding me with phone calls (which I don’t pick) and text messages…begging for forgiveness. In one of the sms, she claim to have missed her period and was waiting to suprise me before we fought. This is a girl that I have met her people and almost took my people to her place for introduction-until her people told us to keep things on hold because they lost her uncle. I am just confused right now. I want the your blog readers opinion on this…is this relationship still worth it? Is this lady worth giving a chance to? What I find difficult to understand is that there is really nothing special about those guys she is relating with. I am a doctor. I even instructed her to have those men call me and assure me that they have nothing with her…she didn’t do that. She actually came to my house with a new sophisticated phone and told me that she wants to give out the one I bought for her. I didn’t complain, though I felt bad. Please post this. Thank you’’

APC Manifesto Subject to Modifications – Buhari •Admits it’s going to be difficult to reduce price of petrol to N40

The President-elect, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has disclosed that the promises he made during the build-up to the presidential election, which were also encapsulated in the All Progressives Congress, APC, manifesto were not words from the Quran or Bible, therefore, it is subject to modification.

Buhari, who stated this in an exclusive interview aired on Television Continental, TVC, stressed that the party’s manifestos would have to be modified according to the law and constitution of the country.

The president-elect had promised fundamental political reforms and improvement in governance, more transparency and accountability.

In the interview, Mr. Buhari also denied a statement credited to his close associate and former minister of petroleum when he was head of state, Prof. Tam David-West that he would bring down the pump price of petrol to N40 per litre.

“I would ask Nigerian political observers to please study our manifesto; it is not a Bible or Quran because you can’t change the Quran. Whatever is there, you take it or leave it. The same thing with most parts of the Bible.

“Our manifesto was made by very experienced Nigerians. It took several months to arrive at it but it is subject to modifications.

“As soon as we are in government, we’ll highly respect the roles of the other two tiers of government – the legislature and judiciary”.

He continued: “Whatever we said in our manifesto, people must accept the fact that we’ve to modify certain things according to the law and the constitution of the country”.

On the likelihood of reviewing downward the price of premium motor spirit popularly called petrol, which is officially pegged at N87 per litre when he takes over from May 29, the president-elect hinted that while it is a possibility, it would be difficult.

“We’ll look at it [although] it is going to be difficult”, he said.

Please, I don’t know what you’re talking about. I don’t even know anything about it, at all.  What’s more important to me at the moment is my new movie, Iya Ibadan.  Every other thing I don’t know anything.”

Meanwhile, the pretty thespian, who was shot to limelight via the movie, Shola Fe Pa Mi, some years ago, was said to be all over the place, during Jonathan’s presidential campaign in Lagos, in PDP T-shirt, bearing Jonathan’s picture and the party’s logo.

But when ENCOMIUM Weekly contacted the film maker on the story, she denied it all.

He, however, promised to remain loyal to the outgoing president and be his last man standing even if all Nigerians abandoned him.

He stated, “I wish to declare unequivocally that I remain loyal to President Jonathan even after May 29 as my support for his re-election and administration was not about bread-and-b*tter.

“I was convinced he was moving Nigeria in the right direction, despite all the noise. I have no regrets supporting him. If same situation presents itself again, I would do it all over.

“Let me state it clearly that if President Jonathan is deserted by all Nigerians today, I, Ayodele Fayose, will remain with him. I have chosen to be his last-man standing”.

The governor added, “It is ironic that those who said worse things about the President-elect, Gen Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) when they were in opposing parties, are the ones milling around him today, using him as an electoral talisman and demonising us for saying things of lesser magnitude during a campaign that was mainly characterised by hate-messages from both divides.

“I also want to put it on record that if all PDP members decamp to APC today, I will remain the last-man standing for the party, even as I have no cause to denigrate the office of the president.

“I also promise APC a robust and engaging opposition both in the South-West and nationally, with me playing a prominent role”.

APC to Fayose: you’re a hypocrite

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has described Governor Ayo Fayose as a hypocrite.

The APC, in a statement, by the media aide of the House of Assembly Speaker, Wole Olujobi, said: “We can now see the cowardly act of a hypocrite who has made impunity a religion in governance and is now afraid of alleged impunity by APC. He wants to do unto others what he would not want to be done unto him!

“A man who wants peace is calling the opposition “irritants”. What a way of seeking reconciliation! Whatever issue Fayose is having with the opposition will be resolved by the law. All this grand standing and rhetoric will not save him from facing the law.

“The governor’s press briefing is nothing but a reversal of hope for the resolution of Ekiti crisis. Some people have expressed worry over the quality of his advisers. But the truth is that Fayose has no adviser. In fact, he hates advisers and so he does not take advice. He takes no one’s advice and those who know him well dare not advise him.

“Fayose has zero tolerance for other people’s opinion. Like Fayose’s former leaders, Baba Ojo Falegan and Evangelist Bamidele Olumilua, once said Fayose believes he is the wisest man on earth.
“There is no suggestion being made today on the resolution of Ekiti crisis that had not been offered in the last few weeks but Fayose would not tolerate that.

“His press conference would convince all that he has a heart of steel and all those Ekiti elders who have been meeting trying to reconcile the two groups are just wasting their time.

“Fayose has agenda that is known only to himself and so whatever effort that is being made to resolve the crisis is just an exercise in futility, if such effort threatens his agenda. He is not known for compromise and there is nothing anybody can do about it.”
