Breaking News: Deadly Bus Bomb Explodes In Yobe

At least 18 killed and 30 were injured as a suicide bomber attacked bus in Potiskum, Yobe State, on Tuesday, February 24, the BBC reports.

According to the PM News, the explosion happened at the Tashar Dan-Borno motor park, on the outskirts of the city. The exact number of casualties is still unknown.

“The bus had just loaded with passengers on its way to Kano when a huge explosion happened inside the bus at 11:40,” said a driver’s union official at the bus station.

“We still don’t know how many people were affected. We are waiting for the fire to be put out before we can have a figure of casualty,” he added.

Another witness who lives in the area, Waziri Danu, said: “I was at a car wash nearby when I heard a huge explosion and saw volleys of fire and smoke coming from the motor park.

“I and people around rushed to the place and we saw a bus engulfed in flames…. It is not likely if anyone in the vehicle has survived.”

Potiskum, the commercial capital of Yobe state, has been hit repeatedly by bombings. This Sunday, February 22, a girl with explosives strapped to her body blew herself up at a crowded GSM market.

The girl was thought to be as young as seven, according to multiple witnesses.

This breaking news story is being updated and more details will be published shortly.
