AIRASIA FLIGHT MISSING, 162 People Onboard

An AirAsia flight traveling from Surabaya, in Indonesia, to Singapore with 162 people on board lost contact with air traffic control on Sunday morning, the airline confirmed. The Huffington Post reports:

Indonesia quickly launched a search to locate the missing plane, but by Sunday night, most search and rescue operations were halted for the day, the plane still unaccounted for.

Flight QZ 8501 — an Airbus 320-200 — lost communication with Indonesia’s Surabaya Juanda International Airport at 7:24 Singapore time on Sunday morning, the airline said. The plane “was requesting deviation due to enroute weather before communication with the aircraft was lost,” AirAsia said in a statement.

“The weather was not good — it was bad — at the estimated location the plane lost contact,” Indonesian Transport Ministry official Hadi Mustafa said. Mustafa said the plane lost contact somewhere between Kalimantan on Borneo island and Belitung island, about 42 minutes after the jet took off. AirAsia Indonesia CEO Sunu Widyatmoko said that the airline is “deeply shocked and saddened” by the disappearance.

“We are deeply shocked and saddened by this incident,” he said in a Facebook post. “We are cooperating with the relevant authorities to the fullest extent to determine the cause of this incident. In the meantime, our main priority is keeping the families of our passengers and colleagues informed on the latest developments.”

The ministry’s air transportation director Joko Muryo Atmodjo said no distress signal had been sent, adding, “Therefore we cannot assume anything yet.”

Why You Must Not Vote For PDP In 2015

Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole wants Nigerians to reject the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at all levels in next year’s general elections. This is because he believes Nigerians will remain in darkness as long as the PDP remains in power.

Oshiomole, who spoke, yesterday, while receiving about 2,000 members of the PDP from Oredo and Egor Local Government Areas of the state led by Mr. Festus Oviawe and Igbe Kingsley respectively into the APC, said that the choice before the people in the next elections was a very clear one, a choice between darkness and change.

“In the last 16 years, Edo State gained nothing from the PDP besides the resurfacing of the Ofosu-Benin Road and the attempt at the dualisation of the Okene-Benin Road, with all its imperfections, which they were forced to embark on after we cried out that how could they dualise the road from Abuja and stop abruptly in Okene without extending it to Edo.

“In 16 the last years, after spending over $25 billion, we have no light. Now they have shared the electricity companies to their friends and associates. For as long as they remain in power, Nigerians will remain in darkness. Our companies will remain shut and the economy will be subjected to the vagaries of instability of the international oil market,” he said.

The governor, while further giving reasons why the PDP must not be voted in 2015, accused President Goodluck Jonathan of abandoning Edo State after getting the people’s votes.

“He got 95 percent vote from Edo State. What has he done in Edo, what has he done in Benin City? The Queen Edo erosion was caused by the Federal Government and I had written several letters to them to fix their mess, yet they ignored us and gave money to Delta and Kogi states.

“See the newly refurbished airport in Benin. I was there and the roof was leaking during the rain. Is that the kind of government we still want in Nigeria? No way. For too long, across Nigeria, PDP has buffeted us with, lies, empty promises, both at the political level and economic front and every day they have run short of lies and they have run short of excuses,” Oshiomole said.

President Jonathan's Christmas Message To Nigerians

Dear Compatriots,
I greet and felicitate with you all once again as we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. I join all of our Christian compatriots in giving thanks to God Almighty for the divine gift of Jesus Christ the Messiah whose earthly incarnation we commemorate today.

As we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ who the Prophet Isaiah heralded as the Prince of Peace and Wonderful Counselor, I believe it is very appropriate that we all, Christians and non-Christians alike, reflect more deeply on the virtues and ideals which the Messiah espoused during his earthly mission.

To my mind, there can be no doubt that the greater internalization of the virtues of love for our fellowmen, tolerance, Godliness, honesty, fairness to others, selflessness, and peaceful co-existence with others, by all adult Nigerians, and the inculcation of the same in our youth,  will definitely help our dear nation to overcome most of its present challenges.

Peace and love for others, especially, were a constant refrain in the Messiah’s teachings and admonitions to mankind.

Therefore, as we celebrate his birth, I urge all Nigerians to offer special prayers for a greater manifestation of divine peace in our country and the vanquishing of all demons of hatred, divisiveness and disunity in our midst.

As we celebrate Christmas, let us also remember and offer special prayers for all of our countrymen, women and children who have suffered and continue to suffer untold hardship, deprivation and death at the hands of terrorists and insurgents.

Let us also continue to pray for our gallant soldiers and security agents who remain at the forefront of the national effort to overcome terrorism and violent extremism, even as the rest of the nation celebrates Christmas and the coming New Year.

In this season of goodwill, I urge all patriotic Nigerians to rededicate themselves to doing all within their powers to support the brave men and women of our armed forces in the ongoing war against terrorism, and also support the Federal Government’s efforts to provide more succour to the hapless victims of terrorist atrocities.

The Victims’ Support Fund which we have established to raise additional funds to assist our compatriots who have been adversely affected by continuing insecurity in parts of our country remains active.

I call on all individuals and corporate organisations who have not yet done so, to donate more generously to the Fund which is being efficaciously deployed to ease the sufferings of victims of terrorist violence in the country.

Dear Compatriots, we are also celebrating this Christmas against the background of preparations for next year’s general elections.

I seize this opportunity to reassure the nation that my administration will give the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) all necessary support to ensure that it delivers very free, fair, credible and acceptable elections in 2015.

National security agencies will also be given all necessary support to enhance their ability to ensure that the elections which should strengthen democracy in our country are peaceful and violence free.

I urge our political class to be law- abiding and place the greater interests of our nation above all personal or sectional interests in the countdown to the elections.

Let us all be more statesman-like, conduct issues-based campaigns, and eschew the promotion of falsehood, division and hatred of others as we seek the votes of our countrymen in what should be a peaceful competition among contending points of view for the progress and development of our dear nation.

I remain convinced that God Almighty is still  with us as a nation even in the midst of our current challenges which we shall surely overcome with greater unity of purpose, dedication, commitment and perseverance.

Let this year’s celebration of the birth of Christ the Messiah rekindle, strengthen and reaffirm our faith in our national ability to overcome all challenges, with God on our side.

I wish you all very happy Christmas celebrations.

Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR

‘Beef with Wizkid is now resolved’ – Davido

Davido has confirmed that he and former foe, Wizkid are now friends once more.

The widely reported beef between two of Nigeria’s finest pop stars, Wizkid and Davido dates back to the early beginnings of their career with a rivalry that many observers earlier noted would surely get to a head at some point.

That prediction came to pass not long after as the beef got worse in July 2014 with a series of online rants and insults aimed at each other. Since then, NET has consistently brought you updates and timely information on the status of their relationship.

A few weeks ago, the brightest glimmer of hope regarding their reconciliation appeared when Starboy boss, Wizkid made a surprise appearance at Davido’s elder brother’s birthday party which held at Escape Night Club. Not just present at the venue, the ‘Ojuelegba’ singer actually walked to greet the HKN Gang, with pictures of both stars at the party immediately going viral across social media platforms.

Now, NET can exclusively confirm that there’s no existing rancour between both parties as some well-meaning and influential Nigerians called them to a round table meeting to settle the differences recently.

Davido revealed this exclusively in an interview with NET, saying: ‘It’s all good now, some rich men brought us together and it’s finally resolved.’

NET probed him further on how true the settlement is and Davido reaffirmed his position: ‘It’s officially resolved, no more drama.’

And when asked who the rich people who got involved, he replied thus: ‘Some very powerful men, I can’t say their names, it was like a round table meeting and it’s all good now.’

Unlike Wizkid, who had thundered that there is nothing like collaboration with Davido when the battle was still raging, when asked if there would be a collabo soon, Davido’s simple answer was: ‘Maybe.’

Taye Taiwo Wants Stephen Keshi Sacked Immediately

Super Eagles defender, Taye Taiwo, has made an unusual declaration saying Coach Stephen Keshi is not fit to continue as the national team coach especially after his failure to qualify the country for the Africa Cup of Nations starting next month in Equatorial Guinea.

Speaking with PREMIUM TIMES in Lagos, the Turkey-based defender said based on precedence, it was only normal for the Big Boss to be relieved of his job after the AFCON miss.

“Everybody in Nigeria knows that when Siasia did not qualify everybody from the media, the fans insisted that they have to sack him, so it is normal that when a coach does not qualify for the Nations Cup or the World Cup he is not allowed to stay on, I am sorry to say that; they have to sack him (Keshi),” Taiwo said.

“Nigeria is not just for one person, if a coach does not qualify you for a competition why do you have to keep him?” he questioned.

While many will be quick to conclude that the hard stance of Taye Taiwo on Keshi may be linked to his exemption from national team duties, the former Olympique Marseille of France stalwart claimed he had no grouse with anyone over his national team snub, but insisted that if it pleases God for him to still represent Nigeria he would definitely do so.

“Please don’t get me wrong, I have no problem with Keshi, Amokachi or even the NFF. The players that have been called are also doing fantastically well, everything is in the hands of Allah. If I get the chance to play for Nigeria I will, if not, life goes on,” Taye Taiwo said.

Oyakhilome’s TV Station Shut Over Tax Evasion

Officials of the Lagos Internal Revenue Service, LIRS, have shut down Infinity Television owned by flamboyant preacher, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, for owing the state government several millions.

This is coming on the heels of Tuesday’s protest by workers of the TV station over non payment of 10 months salaries and non-remittance of their Pay As You Earn, PAYE, tax to the appropriate authorities.

Ailing Infinity TV, located on 16, Moyibat Oyefusi Street, Omole Phase 1, is a Direct To Home, DTH cable TV owned by Pastor Oyakilome of Christ Embassy and was incorporated in 2009.
As members of staff of the company were protesting non-payment of salaries on Tuesday, officials of the LIRS stormed the premises of the company, shut it down and placed a notice on the gate after locking it with padlock.

Some of the workers who spoke with newsmen but asked not to be mentioned said they were ready to protest to Christ Embassy Church on Oregun Road at the Cross Over Night on 31 December, 2014 to demand for the payment of their entitlements since the management of the company is planning to lay them off without paying the arrears of their salaries. “Prior to this time, the staff had been receiving half salaries (for over a year) and by June 2014 salaries have not been paid to date. To worsen the case, the staff were barred from entering the office premises by the Chief Operating Officer, Mr Henry Kifordu.

“All efforts by the staff to meet with the management proved abortive. Staff taxes and pensions have been deducted for years and were never remitted to appropriate authorities. Infinity TV was finally locked up for tax evasion on 23 December, 2014,” a staff of the company stated.

The aggrieved workers said they were left with no other option than to take to the streets to fight for their rights and have decided to storm Christ Embassy’s 31 December night global service to make their grievances known to Oyakhilome, whom, they believed, may not be aware of the happenings in the company.

You Might Spend Your Christmas In Jail - FRSC

Dear TILBers that are car owners, please and please, do heed the warnings of the FRSC

Below, is how PM News reported it....

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) says some road traffic offenders may spend the Christmas holidays in jail.
The FRSC Zonal Commander in-charge of zone 5, Mr Charles Akpabio, told NAN in Onitsha, Anambra, that the commission would deploy mobile and magistrate courts on all road corridors.
Akpabio, who is in-charge of zone 5 comprising of Anambra, Delta and Edo states, said that the move would act as deterrent to road traffic offenders and a reminder to their families and friends to keep warning them to be careful while on the road.
“Now, the essence is to allow them to explain themselves to the judge or to the magistrate – no I didn’t commit the offence, it is not true or I committed the offence, I am sorry.
“If the magistrate decides to allow them to go free, they are free; if the magistrate decides that with the evidence available before the court and say no don’t go free, pay the fine.
“Sometimes, in some cases, they can say pay the fine and go to jail, or go to jail without option of fine; they will show, they will be a deterrent to other road users.
“And for the numbers of years we have utilized mobile courts and magistrate courts in our operations, they have been very effective.
“So this time around, we intend to utilise the mobile courts as well on all the (road) corridors.
“Some offenders that would be arrested for speed violation, dangerous driving, use of phone while driving, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol and driving with expired spare tyre and overloading may likely, may likely by the judgment of the courts spend the Christmas or New Year or New Year and Christmas in jail.”
The zonal commander said the organisation had deployed more than 3,000 marshals, 43 vehicles, 10 motorbikes on road corridors in Anambra, Delta, and Edo states to ensure safety of Nigerians this yuletide season.
“We have six advanced life support ambulances, two heavy duty tow trucks to be located each at Niger Bridge and Benin for effective coverage, 4 medium duty tow trucks to compliment the heavy duty tow trucks for quick removal of obstruction.”
He said the FRSC approved the commencement of “Operation Zero Tolerance” nationwide to help deal with road users’ refusal to adhere to traffic rules and regulations.
“All the deployments are with immediate effect since “Operation Zero Tolerance” commences on December 19, 2014 and ends on January 13, 2015.
“All patrol teams are equipped with reflective jackets for team members, traffic cones, patrolites and radar guns to help checkmate speeding drivers on the road.
“Breathalyzers in quantities have been allocated to command such that any driver suspected to be driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol will be promptly tested.
“If the driver test positive, he or she will be charged to mobile court on the spot.”

We’re determined to transform Nigeria - Sambo

The Federal Government said on Tuesday that it was determined to transform Nigeria through the implementation of people-oriented projects.

Vice President Namadi Sambo who made this remark while flagging off the Enugu-Port Harcourt-Enugu intercity train service at the railway terminus in Port Harcourt, said the President Goodluck Jonathan administration had given priority to infrastructural development.

Sambo explained that the current administration had kept faith with Nigerians through the fulfillment of its electoral promises.

He described the rail rehabilitation project as a demonstration of President Jonathan’s transformation agenda.
Sambo pointed out that President Jonathan was interested in providing qualitative and transformational change and added that the rehabilitation of railway transport remained a landmark achievement of the current administration.

Describing the railway interchange project as significant in service delivery, the Vice President stated that the new development in the rail sub-sector would reduce the transport challenges faced by Nigerians.

“Our administration has given top priority to infrastructural development, one of which is the railway sector as the component of transformation agenda of President Jonathan.

“The Federal Government initiated and articulated the strategic plans for the railway development in Nigeria, which has suffered neglect in the past 30 years.

“We are determined to transform Nigeria to a very viable height. We have kept faith with the Nigerian people in keeping all our electoral promises. We are gradually implementing our projects that will transform the lives of Nigeria people.

“With the continued support of Nigerians, we shall see all those projects through. This flag-off of Enugu-Port Harcourt-Enugu Intercity
Train service is a concrete evidence that the Federal Government is very much concerned about its citizens.

“I am glad that this will extend to other parts of the country by January. The ongoing modernization of the rail system is progressing steadily,” Sambo said.

Also, the Chairman of Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme, General Martin Luther Agwai (rtd), said that over N82 billion was spent to revive the rail sub-sector.

According to Agwai, Enugu-Port Harcourt-Enugu intercity train service has gulped N34.6 billion.
Earlier, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Mr. Adeseyi Sijuwade, stated that the Eastern line rehabilitation was challenging as a result of the extent of its dilapidation.

5 Ways To Find — And Keep — Great Friendships

1. BE SOCIAL
It’s important to get out and meet people, just as Mata did and still does. You can’t expect to make friends by staying at home. Instead, you need to hit the town or engage in community activities. “It seems obvious, but you’d be surprised how many people don’t have the friends they want and yet never choose activities and environments that help them meet new people,” says Nelson.

“A huge piece of this step too, is being open to who you do meet,” suggests Nelson. “Research shows that you don’t need to have religion, economics, relationship status, or political views in common to bond; you only need to eventually find a few areas of commonality.”

2. INITIATE REPEATEDLY
Mata often invites friends out for a night on the town or hosts charity events as a way to get to know new people, but not all women will do so in return. “In an ideal world, someone else would do all the inviting, scheduling and planning for the two of you to connect,” says Nelson. “But in this world, some of us are either more motivated to do it at certain times, have more time to do it, or have the skills and gifts to do it.”

Ultimately, if you want to make friends, then you’ll need to put forth the effort. A mutual relationship doesn’t mean you both initiate evenly; it just means that as the friendship progresses you both end up contributing in different ways that are meaningful, according to Nelson. “But a friendship can’t get off the ground without time together and that means it has to be initiated repeatedly to give it momentum for you two to get to know each other.”

3. KEEP IT POSITIVE
Nobody wants to be thought of as a ‘Debbie Downer’ or someone who brings down the mood of those around them. Keeping a positive outlook and knowing how to have fun will make others want to be around you.

“No one woke up this morning wanting one more needy, complaining and exhausting person in their life,” says Nelson. “In the beginning stages of a new friendship, you need to make deposits of laughter, affirmation, fun, hope and generosity before you can someday make withdrawals of favors, complaining, and tears. Make it your goal to have people leave your presence feeling better about themselves and their lives for having spent time with you.”

4. INCREASE YOUR VULNERABILITY
Over time, it’s important to let new friends in as we begin to trust them more; this is vital to strengthening the bonds we share. “We can show up with authenticity from the very beginning, but that’s different from vomiting our story on someone we don’t know well,” says Nelson. “Hearing our hearts is the role of a very good friend. If we don’t have that in our lives right now, we must build up to it without confusing the difference between what we expect from new friends versus established friends,” advises Nelson. “We increase our vulnerability as the commitment to the relationship increases. We should share incrementally, see that it’s received well and that sharing is ultimately mutual before going too much deeper.”

However, before we can allow ourselves to become vulnerable around a new friend, we have to be able to trust him or her completely. This is something Diana Young learned several years ago while making new friends after moving to Alabama. “Meaningful friendships are based on trust; trust means that a friend will be there in your time of need and that you can depend on them for even the smallest of favors,” says Young. “Trust also means you can divulge your deepest and darkest secrets—and while a friend won’t judge, they will be completely honest with you.”

5. PRACTICE FORGIVENESS
It’s important to keep in mind that no friend will ever be perfect or do exactly as we expect. “We’ll disappoint each other as we learn how to dance with each other,” says Nelson. “We’ll find qualities that annoy us, choices they’ve made that we disagree with and expectations that they didn’t live up to, but one of the most important roles of friendship is to practice forgiving those around us for not being perfect.” It’s impossible to build a long-lasting and meaningful friendship without some disappointment and forgiveness along the way.

In the end, just remember that creating new friendship begins with you. “It starts with being honest with yourself and who you are—and accepting yourself as you are,” says Mata. When you can be genuine to yourself, you can then treat each other with the utmost respect and kindness. It’s about being open to learning about others and even learning more about yourself. Every relationship—even friendship—takes work. Understanding this helps make a friendship more meaningful. “It’s also about taking the good with the bad and simply loving and enjoying every step you take with each other.”

How We Intend To End Boko Haram Insurgency, Unemployment In Nigeria – Osinbajo

Prof. Yemi Osinbajo said has expressed confidence that the party’s Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gen. Muhammed Buhari will wipe out the Boko Haram insurgents and create jobs in Nigeria if elected in 2015.

Osinbajo, who is Buhari’s running mate said this while answering questions from his Twitter followers. He claimed that Jonathan’s administration is unable to end Boko Haram insurgency because of corruption that has eaten into defence funds, which has affected the kitting and motivation of soldiers.

“The current administration has politicised Boko Haram. The corruption around defence funds has created a situation where soldiers are not well equipped/motivated. GMB wiped out Maitatsine, another Islamic insurgency in his own administration by sincerely identifying the problem as a challenge to the authority of the state to maintain law and order. The administration took command and funded the military transparently and that’s what we need to do now to end this insurgency.

According to Osinbajo, if elected in 2015, Buhari will tackle the problem of unemployment in the country by supporting every state to create 20,000 jobs.

“We expect every state will be supported to create 20, 000 jobs directly funded. The FG will also match the creation that for every additional job created over 20, 000 mark. FG will pay a stipend to every youth corper for a year while they are looking for employment and in that year will give vocational training. FG will undertake a massive public works programme; this is expected to have multiplier effect of producing hundreds of thousands of jobs. FG will give tax breaks and recognition to employers of labour who provide a certain minimum number of jobs,” Osinbajo said.

He slammed the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan for condoning corruption. He promised that the APC government will not tolerate it.

“One of the fundamental problems is that there is no consequence for corruption, I think that what everyone will agree to about a Buhari government is that it will not tolerate corruption. If the number one citizen has a clear and uncompromising anti-corruption stand then the anti-corruption policy will work. If the number one and two have a strong stance on anti-corruptrtion then our policy can succeed. In Lagos state, we were able to deal with judicial corruption by dealing with issues of remuneration and a strict policy on consequence in sanctions where judicial personnel are found to be corrupt. That model can be replicated,” he noted.

Osinbajo stated that the difference between the APC and the PDP is that the former focus on policies that will impact the lives of the common man, unlike the latter.

We have social programmes such as social welfare (first in Africa), free education, mass employment, universal healthcare insurance and the free meals programme in primary schools. The difference is in the ticket, integrity is key,” Osinbajo wrote.

Ronke Odusanya finally speaks on alleged husband-snatching scandal

(Actress Ronke Odusanya aka Flakky Ididowo, has debunked allegations of husband snatching. Photo: Ronke Odusanya)

Actress, Ronke Odusanya aka Flakky Ididowo has debunked allegations of snatching another woman’s husband.

The Ogun State-born actress, who was once romantically linked with Fuji musician, Pasuma, has come out to say there is no truth whatsoever in the reports that she is now married to a US-based man, Femi Anibaba.

It would be recalled that a couple of months back, a woman known as Folape Sokoya cried out that Flakky, as the actress is also known, is romancing her husband of 12 years and had destroyed her home by leading her husband into abandoning their home and 3 children.

However, in a recent interview with City People Magazine, the busty actress debunked rumours that she snatched another woman’s husband.

‘I am not married, neither am I engaged to anyone, as you can see, I am still very much single. I hope to get someone I will get married to. I am a friend to some guy whose wife has left 2 years ago but unfortunately she went on the papers to say that I have snatched her husband. I really don’t know why and I don’t want to talk about it,’ she said.

Speaking further on the likely source of the rumours by saying: ‘I wore a ring to an event and unfortunately a lady asked me: ‘are you engaged’ and I responded ‘yes,’ she asked further: ‘who?’ and I replied her to whoever and she went right to the papers to say that I am engaged and set to marry soon. I don’t know where she got that from. I do wear the ring in order to scare men away from me. I just wanted to be free but they won’t let you be but I thought that once they see the ring, they will keep their eyes off me.’

10 Ways to Avoid Holiday Weight Gain

It's that time of the year, when there will be plenty types of food at our disposal, and because of the holiday break, we'll have more than enough time to devour these various delicacies...lol
As a result of this, a lot of people would have gained weight from all these indulging, before work resumes.
Now, we wouldn't want that for our beloved TILBers. So, here are 10 ways to avoid that unnecessary weight gain, as you enjoy the festivities of this period.. Stay healthy y'all.. Enjoy

1. Never Arrive Hungry

New York psychologist Carol Goldberg, PhD, says planning ahead can help you maintain discipline in the face of temptation. "Don't go to a party when you're starving," she warns. Try to have a nutritious snack beforehand. If you do arrive hungry, drink some water to fill up before filling your plate.
2. Divert Your Attention

Many people forget that there's more to a holiday party than food, Goldberg tells WebMD. "Don't look at the party as just a food event," she says. "Enjoy your friends' company or dancing. Focus on something other than food."
Finn agrees. She says chatting is a great diversion, whether you're at a small family dinner or a large party. "Take your mind off of food and focus on the conversation."
3. Pace Yourself

Have you ever tried telling yourself you'll only eat during the first half hour of a party? Goldberg says this strategy is a mistake. "If you cram in as much as you can in half an hour, you chew faster. Chewing more slowly will fill you up with less food."
To munch at a leisurely pace, Finn recommends putting your fork down between every bite. "This puts you in control."

4. Count Your Canape

When there are canapes(appetizers), it's easy to lose count of how many you eat. Keep track by stashing a toothpick in your pocket for each one. Set a limit and stick to it.
5. Outsmart the Buffet

When dinner is served buffet-style, use the smallest plate available and don't stack your food; limit your helpings to a single story. "Go for the simplest foods on the buffet," Finn says. "Fresh fruits and vegetables and shrimp cocktail are good choices. Watch out for sauces and dips."
6. Limit Alcohol

Avoid drinking too much alcohol at holiday parties. "It's not just about calories but about control," Finn explains. "If you drink a lot you, won't have as much control over what you eat."
If you feel out of place without a drink, Goldberg suggests sipping water or club soda, "so you have something to carry like everyone else."
7. Be Choosy About Sweets

When it comes to dessert, be very selective. "Limit your indulgences to small portions and only what is very sensual to you," Goldberg says. Her personal rule on sweets: "If it's going to have calories, it has to be chocolate."
What about sampling several desserts, if you only take a tiny bite of each one? "You have to know yourself," Goldberg says. "Some people can eat one bite of something and stop. I don't think most people can do that. "If you know you're the type who can't stop at one bite, you're better off taking a small portion of a single dessert than piling your plate with several treats you plan to "try."
8. Bring Your Own Treats

Whether you're going to a friend's party or an office potluck, consider bringing a low-calorie treat that you know you'll enjoy. Bringing your own dessert will make the more fattening alternatives less tempting.
And don't feel your dessert has to be typical holiday fare. "Get away from rigid thinking about what holiday food has to be," Goldberg says. "People love fruit."
9. Limit 'Tastes' While Cooking

If you do a lot of cooking during the holidays, crack down on all those "tastes." "People lose their appetites when they've been cooking because they've been eating the whole time," Finn tells WebMD. Instead of tasting mindlessly every few minutes, limit yourself to two small bites of each item pre- and post-seasoning. "Just put the spoon in and taste a little bit," Finn says. "It's not grounds for a big scoop."
For tried-and-true recipes, dare yourself not to taste the dish at all until it is served.

10. Walk It Off

Make a new holiday tradition: the family walk. Besides burning some extra calories, this will get everyone away from the food for awhile.
"Get people off the couch and move," Finn says. "Go out for a walk as a family before or after the meal." She says walking not only benefits you physically but also puts you in a mindset to be more careful about what you eat. "There's something about activity that puts you in control."

No matter how rich or exalted one's station, such is expected from people who care so much about you, but sadly many don't do it. Not that they cannot employ the services of caterers or command some other people to do it, but because of the love, they decided to take it upon themselves.  See more photos below...

How To Survive An Ebola Virus Disease

Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) which is also known as Ebola Haemorrhagic Fever, is a deadly viral disease caused by Ebola Viruses. It was in the year 1976 that Ebola first appeared in two outbreaks, one in a village near the Ebola River in the Democratic Republic of Congo (where it took its name from) and the other in a remote area of Sudan.

The symptoms and signs of Ebola begin to show after two (2) to twenty one (21) days of being infected with the virus. In the early stage, EVD is characterised by fever, sore throat, muscle pain and headaches and then followed by vomiting, diarrhoea and the accompanying deranged liver and kidney functions. Bleeding, both internally and externally occurs at the late stage of the disease. Ebola virus disease infections can only be confirmed through laboratory testing.

A person who has the EVD can infect other people when they begin to show signs and symptoms of the disease but before this period they are not contagious. It is during such times as these that simple hygiene habits of regular handing washing can be life-saving.

Ebola has a high mortality rate of about twenty five (25) to ninety (90) percent. As of September 2014, the average risk of death among those infected with the virus is 50 percent. The highest risk of death from EVD was 90 percent in the 2002–2003 Republic of the Congo outbreak.

The current outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease in West Africa is the largest since the virus was first discovered in 1976 with countries such are Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia being the worst affected.  As of 10 December 2014, there has been 18,232 suspected cases and 6,990 deaths had been reported.

Despite the dread that’s usually associated with Ebola, the unsaid silent truth is that Ebola Virus Disease can be survived though with early presentation at the treatment centres and adequate supportive care as death from EVD usually occur from the shock and electrolyte imbalance which accompanies the fluid and blood loss.

Though Ebola kills within three (3) weeks of manifesting signs and symptoms, the early presentation has been a major notable factor among all the survivors.

Presently, EVD doesn’t have a definitive treatment but prompt and adequate supportive care which includes but not limited to replacement of lost fluids and electrolytes and treatments of any other underlining medical conditions has proved magical in the treatment of Ebola patients.

Many have survived an Ebola Virus Disease and many more will. Idris Bangura is one of such people.

Idris is a 29years old portal who contacted EVD in the Regional Government Hospital in Makama, Northern Region of Sierra Leone where he had a physical contact with an Ebola positive patient, Halassan Kamara (now a survivor too), who was admitted at the hospital.

One thing Idris did right after his exposure to the EVD patient was to report immediately to his supervisor at the hospital. He was then quarantined and was later to test positive to the virus.

Idris is one of the many Ebola survivors who works at the Magbenteh Ebola Treatment Centre in Makeni, Bomballi District, Sierra Leone which is being operated by the African Union team of dedicated medical experts under the Africa Union Support to Ebola Outbreak in West Africa (ASEOWA) framework. The others include Kanko, Zainab, Mariatu, Isaac, Aminat, Solomon, and Adamasay who are working in various departments of the treatment centre.

Magbenteh Ebola Treatment Centre is a 100-bed capacity centre which became operational on the 24th November, 2014 and by Thursday 11th December, 2014 it had produced 24 Ebola survivors giving an early unprecedented success to the efforts of the African Union Commission through an massive deployment of both human and material resources in fighting the deadly scourge on the continent.

The stories of Ebola survivors are truly the beckons of hope to those who live and work in countries like Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia where the fear of the disease is the beginning of wisdom. Ebola is a killer disease but it can be prevented and when contacted, with early presentation at the treatment centres, Ebola can be overcomed.

10 Things We Learnt From APC And PDP Primaries

Petitions, accusations, allegations and counter allegations from different aspirants may have to be settled by the courts as INEC’s deadline for accepting nominations of some candidates from political parties has elapsed. The primary elections of Nigeria’s two strongest political parties, the All Progressives’ Congress (APC) and the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) might have come and gone, but the dusts raised by the exercises across various states of the federation are yet to settle. As things are currently going, it is unlikely that the primary election appeal committees of both parties will adequately or significantly settle these dusts so much that it will amount to a major change of the status quo.

For better or for worse, these nomination processes by the two biggest parties have taught us some lessons, some of which were so funny to the extent that one occasionally finds it difficult to differentiate between Nigerian politics and comedy.  From the expected and usual to the bizarre and unexpected, here are some of these things are;

Aspirants Only Unite After Losing Primaries;

This year’s elections have seen a lot of contenders for different positions with some states having from between 10 to 15 gubernatorial aspirants in one party alone.  Ideally, one expects all the aspirants to have one major goal, that of using the office they are vying for to better peoples’ lives and the only differences between them should be in methods and approaches to achieving that goal. In the pursuit of their mandates, they differ very much. While some are craving for free and credible primaries, some are clamouring for zoning, some want automatic tickets while others are waiting for anointment. However, once the primaries are over and the ‘winner’ emerges, the defeated aspirants will for the right or wrong reasons gang up and suddenly unite under one agenda, call for fresh primaries. Aspirants with hitherto no connections or even sharing animosities, suddenly become partners searching for justice. A lot of PDP Gubernatorial Primaries have resulted in such scenarios with Yobe, Adamawa, Kano and Imo been typical examples. The APC has a similar case in Gombe.

APC Is Merged but Not Integrated;

From early to late last year, the ANPP, ACN, CPC, APGA Faction, nPDP and others merged to form the APC with some coming after  the party’s formal registration.  However, the recent primaries in some states showed that they didn’t really merge; the only glued or fastened together. In many states, there was rancour over what they termed ‘marginalization of legacy parties’ or ‘scheming out of non-legacy parties’, etc. in other states, candidates were ‘allocated’ based on legacy or merging parties. A senatorial aspirant in Kano State only remembered that he was a former ACN member after he lost the primaries. One of the reasons he gave why the primaries should be annulled was that ACN was marginalized in the state.

Consensus Is More like Coercion

The issue of consensus candidate is not new in our politics, but it was practically kicked off this term by the PDP and President Jonathan. PDP undemocratically barred anyone from contesting against the president, despite the fact that nothing suggests that Jonathan will not win the PDP primaries with a landslide against whoever decides to contest.  Although a convention was later organized to ratify Jonathan’s candidacy, we also learnt from that convention that all this while, the PDP National Chairman and Secretary have been in acting capacity.

Furthermore, most candidates who were claimed to have stepped down base on consensus arrangement, later turned back and kicked against the consensus arrangement, citing coercion, threat and potential injustice for their withdrawal. In Jigawa State, the former Deputy Governor of the state emerged as APC gubernatorial candidate through consensus, only for one of the other aspirants to make a u-turn and insists on primaries. That aspirant won, but the earlier consensus candidate did not participate in the primaries.

Elections May Not Hold in Emergency States;

No party held meaningful primaries in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe. While the PDP shifted its primaries for these states to Abuja, most of the APC’s candidates emerged unopposed.  For example APC governorship aspirants in Yobe were frustrated out of the race to pave way for the emergence of Governor Ibrahim Gaidam almost unopposed as flag-bearer. Some ‘non-favoured’ APC aspirants ran between Damaturu and Abuja in search of where to submit their forms, with some of them not being able to do so up to the time of the primaries. Governor Shettima as well as almost all Borno APC candidates emerged automatically. However, the party conducted successful primaries in Adamawa.

The PDP, for security reasons conducted its own primaries for some of these states in Abuja. Nuhu Ribadu emerged Adamawa PDP candidate in what looked like a one-way traffic process with almost all the candidates including Governor Ngilari rejecting the outcome. Earlier before the primaries the Adamawa Governor according to media reports promised all the delegates automatic employment worth N50,000 monthly, but still went ahead to ‘lose’.

If the mighty Ruling Party cannot conduct primaries in a place for security reasons, then, how secure is that place for General Elections?

Nigerians Have No Stake in Determining Flag-bearers; There is No End in Sight to Godfatherism and Nigerian Governors are Simply Unstoppable;

The most popular aspirants usually lose in the primaries, leaving voters to elect between whomever candidates the party primaries produce for them in the general elections.

Early this year, APC embarked on a massive membership drive promising Nigerians that they would be given the opportunity to choose their leaders through direct primaries. However, since after the enormously successful membership registration exercise, the party began to systematically distance itself from that promise, until it eventually settled for what it called ‘modified indirect primaries’. That arrangement has seen only 6,008 delegates select a Presidential Candidate for more than 170 million people.

PDP’s case is even worse in all ramifications as about 3000 delegates were made to vote for just one contender. Also, 21 delegates were alleged to have determined the PDP gubernatorial candidate for the whole of Yobe State. We also learnt, especially from the PDP primaries that delegates may be different from voters and that it is not the voting that matters, but the counting.

Godfathers, most of who are governors have continued their dictatorial trend of dominating politics left, right and center. Governors’ favoured aspirants are winning primaries with ‘ease’ and by the governors forcing themselves as senatorial candidates; they are now well positioned to take over the Red Chamber in 2015. Meanwhile, the abysmal performance of deputy governors in primary elections continues. It is safe to assume that no less than 90% of Deputy Governors covertly or overtly nurtured the ambition of flying their party’s flags, but only two (Kano and Ebonyi) succeeded, others failed woefully.

Simply put, success in Nigerian politics is fast becoming an impossibility without a godfather. Even the mighty Buhari had to rely on Tinubu’s support to be sure of victory.

Jonathan is Focused on His Ambition;

It is clear that Jonathan is strictly focused on his ambition, leaving little or no room for distractions. This is evident, going by the fact that most of his men failed to clinch the various tickets they contested for. With the exception of Darius Ishaku (Taraba) and Nyesom Wike (Rivers), none of his former ministers managed to scale through the PDP gubernatorial primaries and events suggests that Jonathan did little to help.

Despite being part of Jonathan’s kitchen cabinet, some ministers like that of FCT simply refused to participate in the PDP gubernatorial race probably due to lack of encouragement from the President. It looks like Jonathan did not take sides directly and didn’t get involved much in PDP state primaries, probably as a pay back to his sole candidacy or to avoid any move that could backfire.  Internal revolt is the least Jonathan would want at the moment.

APC is PDP’s Waste Basket;

A rough estimate suggests that between 60 to 80% of all successful APC candidates at all levels are either former PDP members or those who left the PDP recently.

Many aspirants joined APC from PDP within days or hours and went ahead to clinch gubernatorial tickets. Akwa-Ibom, Kebbi and Benue states are typical examples. It would be interesting to see if APC would complain if these guys keep to tradition and later re-join the PDP after they win.

The other twenty or thirty something remaining political parties are no more than anyone’s waste basket. Only few of them conducted meaningful and visible primaries with most of their notable candidates emerging after crossing over from other parties.

It Is Possible To Contest for Two Posts at a Time;

This phenomenon practically began with Tambuwal who was eyeing both the APC Presidential and the Sokoto State Governorship Tickets. Media reports suggest that he has obtained nomination forms for both positions. However, he later settled for the governorship.

Kwankwaso and Rochas successfully executed what Tambuwal only attempted. They may not have broken any law, but their actions are simply insulting on peoples’ sensibilities. It was very much clear that Kwankwaso was eyeing the Kano Central Senatorial Ticket even as he was vigorously pursuing a clearly predictable presidential contest. Kwankwaso made sure that his in-law, former Personal Assistant and current Commissioner clinched the Kano Central APC Senatorial Ticket and after he lost the APC Presidential Primaries, the ticket was relinquished to him, just as one’s personal property would be returned to him when he comes for it. Rochas practically did the same by apparently asking his commissioner to take custody of the Imo APC Gubernatorial Ticket for him before he collected it back almost on the very day he lost the presidential primaries. One wonders how APC allowed that without any query so far.

Being Running Mate Is More Difficult That Being Candidate;

Vice president Namadi Sambo’s seat was under threat for much part of their second coming with Jonathan.  It was clear that in the past 2 years that some Northern PDP Governors were not eyeing the Presidency but the Vice Presidency which made Sambo’s position looked insecure for some time.

Similarly, the choice of Buhari’s running mate gave the APC’s top hierarchy a tough time with meetings running into marathons. Before succumbing to religious propaganda which probably necessitated the emergence of Professor Osinbajo, they had to seriously contend with more than 7 names with Amaechi, Oshiomole, Tinubu and Fashola among them. The APC VP slot was fiercely contested to the point one thought the party would organize a fresh convention to elect a VP Candidate.

Similar scenarios played out in some states where Gubernatorial Candidates had to determine their Running Mates on INEC candidates’ submission deadline.

2015 Elections Would Not Be Free and Fair;

Going by the controversial nature by which many candidates emerged; one has every reason to be pessimistic about the General Elections. Many unpopular incumbents had forced themselves through the primaries and are probably hell bent on rigging themselves through the General Elections.

President Jonathan for example who has one of the poorest public ratings in Africa currently and whose eligibility to contest is still controversial, must be very conscious of this, and he wouldn’t have decided to contest if he was willing to allow a free, fair, smooth and credible election to take place. The way he emerged as PDP’s sole candidate only adds possibility to this assumption.

Furthermore, with many primaries of both parties dominated by money sharing, coercion of delegates, rigging, do-or-die attitude, winning-at-all-costs and winner-takes-all phenomena, one only has to wonder the extent to which candidates that emerged from such processes would go in trying to win at the general elections.

With INEC being handicapped by the Electoral Act from fighting candidate imposition, refusing to accept flawed nominations or even properly checkmating rigging, anything can happen in 2015.

Only Chadian government can resolve Boko Haram insurgency – Modu Sheriff

Former Borno State governor, Ali Modu Sheriff, has shed more light on the Boko Haram militancy currently plaguing some parts of the country, stressing that only the neighbouring Republic of Chad could help solve the menace.

The ex-governor accused of being a sponsor of the terrorist sect while being interviewed on BBC Hausa Service programme (Gane Mini Hanya) on Saturday and monitored in Abuja, denied allegations that Boko Haram started during his tenure as governor between 2003 and 2011, saying the radical islamist sect actually started in Yobe State in 1992.

Sheriff, who said he was passionate about restoring peace to Borno, maintained that his resolve to find a lasting solution to insurgency in the region has seen him holding talks with the Chadian government.

The governor, who would not say how Chad could possibly help in resolving the crisis, noted that as one of the few politicians to have benefitted greatly from the kindness of Borno State, he is doing whatever it is to help solve the insurgency.

His words, “Nothing preoccupies my mind in Nigeria presently like the return of peace in Borno. When Borno State was peaceful, there was no place I cherished to stay in the world like Maiduguri. I, my friends, my confidants, my parents and all the schools I attended are in Maiduguri.

“Therefore, I am more concerned than anybody in this country, because what Borno State did for me has not been done to any other indigene. You know, in Borno State, a governor has never been re-elected apart from me; in Borno State, no senator has ever been elected thrice apart from me. So, Borno people have done everything for me, and there is no one in this world that I know other than Chad, which I think could help Borno,” he posited.

Restating that claims of him being behind Boko Haram remains a frame up, Sheriff said: “They defamed my character, and when they started it, I once told journalists that it was plotted in Maiduguri. We know the plotters, their motives, and that by the grace of God, the truth will prevail; and now, the arrested impostors have said it all to the world.”

Politics Is Not Mathematics; Okupe Tells APC

Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to President Goodluck Jonathan, Doyin Okupe has laughed off the calculation of the All Progressives Congress (APC), which apparently made the party choose former Head of State Muhammadu Buhari as its flag bearer in the 2015 presidential election, saying politics is not mathematics.

“The calculation that Buhari came with 12 million votes (in 2011) without other platforms; now, if you can deliver the entire of the South-west, that is another 20 million votes, you add it and he is going to win. Politics is not mathematics,” Okupe told Vanguard in a recent interview.

“Yes, Buhari may have had 12 million votes in 2011. But the Bola Tinubus of this world, in the course of showing their capabilities, have been bruised, they do not control the South-west and that is very clear. In actual fact, were it not because they have a lot of money, Buhari should have dumped them long ago because they cannot deliver. At the beginning of this year, maybe the calculation was still clear that they would deliver South-west,” the presidential aide said, but explained that the APC’s hold on the southwest had diminished.

He gave reasons for his assertion: “Today, in the South-west, Ondo is not in the basket, Ekiti is not in the basket, Osun is neither here nor there, and I am saying that authoritatively. PDP gubernatorial candidate Omisore may still be the governor of Osun; but even if he does not become the governor of Osun, we have seen the results of the last gubernatorial election in the state. If that is something to go by, it is topsy turvy.

“In Lagos State, just as they (APC) are clamouring for change at the national level, people at the grassroots are saying they are fed up with the nonsensical things that APC has been doing in the state,” Okupe said.

Commenting on the APC’s threat to form a parallel government if the presidential election in 2015 is rigged, Okupe described it as irresponsible.

“There is no basis for it in law. How do you determine an election that is rigged or not rigged. It is only a court of law that can pronounce that an election was rigged. Preparing to form a parallel government before an election, should not be taken serious. The person who started the discussion was Amaechi (Rivers State governor) and that should not be taken serious. Amaechi first made that statement and the party adopted it. It is an irresponsible statement,” he said.

How I was molested by a Catholic priest, says Lola Omotayo-Okoye

LOLA Omotoya-Okoye, wife of Peter of P’Square fame, has opened up on two major issues that nearly ruined her life as a teenager.

The first issue, according to her, is the molestation she suffered in the hands of a Catholic priest. She said the incident disturbed her emotionally, and made her to be rebellious.
“When I was a young girl in my early teens in high school, I was molested by a Catholic priest. I blamed myself. I didn’t tell anyone because I was ashamed. I couldn’t tell anyone because everyone would blame me; so I carried on the guilt and bitterness with me for years. I was filled with hate and I became an angry person. I was rebellious; I didn’t want to listen to anybody, and because I wanted to be expelled from school to avoid seeing this person, I would do so many terrible things, everything around me was just so negative,” she said.
The beautiful mother of two carried on with her bitterness, up to the university where she thought she had fallen in love, until her lover turned her to a punching bag; making her feel she is not good enough for anything or anybody. “I moved on to the university, met the love of my life and I’m like, okay this guy is cool, he loves me…and then, he started to abuse me….I was beaten black and blue all the time; in front of friends, in the public, and at a point I felt I was not worthy of anybody there is nothing about me that is nice, nobody loves me but I hid this from my family”
However, the turning point for Lola came when she decided to sink her energy in work before finding a counsellor who helped her out.
Lola, who was speaking on a TV show, Dare2Dream, also revealed how friends and family members discouraged her from dating her hubby, but she stood by him and today she has got a beautiful life, “Look at my husband, when I met him peeps were like what are you doing with him, he has nothing but I stood my ground and choose to stick with him cos he had a dream. He and his twin brother did not let their dream die, they worked hard. Look at them today! I stuck by him because he had focus and drive and today I am happy, I have a good life, we are happy and we have got a beautiful family. No one can make you a loser.”

Fayose Distributes 80,000 Birds, 100,000 Bags Of Rice To The Less Privileged, Widows

Ekiti State governor, Ayo Fayose, yesterday distributed at least 80,000 birds, 100,000 bags of rice and sums of money to the less privileged, widows and the aged in the state, as part of his stomach infrastructure programme.

According to a press statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Idowu Adelusi, some of the elderly, who received gifts at the governor’s office, could not hide their joy at the rare opportunity. They offered prayers for the governor and members of his cabinet.

After giving out packages to everyone who showed up at his office, Fayose was reported to have gone to markets in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital with some packages for those who could come to his office, with a promise that all the 16 local governments had designated centres for the distribution.

Speaking with journalists, Fayose reiterated his commitment to the welfare of the people of Ekiti, who, “against all odds”, returned him to office after eight years.

The governor’s victory challenged by the All Progressives Congress (APC) was last week affirmed by an election tribunal.

We will tackle insurgency through creation of eight million jobs, says APC

To check violent insurgency in the North East, the Deputy National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), North West, Alh. Inuwa Abdulkadir, says the party will create eight million jobs within four years if voted into power in 2015.
The former Minister of Youth Development spoke at an Inter-Party Debate on Parties’ Master Plan for Rising Insecurity in Nigeria organised by Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) at the weekend in Abuja.
Decrying the poor performance of the present administration to effectively manage insecurity challenges in the country, Abdulkadir said the increasing violence and attacks in the nation is attributed to the high rate of unemployment rate among the youth.
He said: “One could say lack of jobs is one of the causes of insecurity in Nigeria. We have a quite substantial number of young people who have no jobs or means of livelihood. Literally, they have nothing doing, yet they have to survive. So anybody can use them to fabricate all sort of violence. That’s why job creation is the main crust of APC and that, you can witness in APC states. APC intends to provide the people with 2 million jobs annually when it gets into power.”
In his remarks, representative of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Catchy Onanoju, said the nation has been unable to win the battle against insurgency due to poor training of military personnel.
He said: “You can make your background checks; our boys have not been trained in the past 30 years. As I speak, if we have a real commando unit, 10 boys can go in and take out a battalion of Boko Haram. We are lucky, because Boko Haram is not well organised. I am here sharing the truth about what we have as a challenge in the country. We have to agree as a country to rebuild our army.”
Both Abdulkadir and Onanoju, however, agreed on the issue of state and community policing in order to address the lingering security crisis in the country.

BUHARI/OSINBAJO: We are a mission and we do not meddle in politics - RCCG

The Redeemed Christian Church of God has dissociated itself from rumours making the rounds that its General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, gave his blessings to the vice-presidential ambition of a former Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.

The All Progressives Congress had on Wednesday named Osinbajo, who is said to be Adeboye’s close ally, as the running mate of its presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).

The RCCG denied celebrating the emergence of the law professor who pastors its Olive Parish located on Banana Island, Lagos.

Writing on its official Twitter page on Wednesday, the church said it does not dabble into politics in any shade or colouration.

“We are a mission and we do not meddle in politics,” the RCCG stated while urging Nigerians to be wary of fictitious and misleading social media accounts dragging its name into the murky waters of politics.

Meanwhile, reactions have begun to trail the emergence of Osinbajo as Buhari’s running mate for the 2015 presidential election.

While many applauded the opposition party for coming up with Osinbajo, a cross section of Nigerians disagreed with his emergence.

Leading the pack of Nigerians who kicked against the emergence of the former Lagos State justice commissioner on Wednesday was R &B Singer and founder of Empire Mates Entertainment, Banky W.

According to the award-winning musician, there were better experienced hands than Osinbajo in public administration that the APC could have picked from.

He lamented that the “crap” called religion had robbed the opposition party of fielding Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, who he described as more eminently qualified than Osinbajo.

“It (Buhari’s running mate) should be Fashola. They use religion as a tool to control us. I don’t care about my leader’s tribe, religion, or whatever jargon they keep feeding us. Zoning ‘religioning’ are all crap. Who cares if Fashola is a Muslim? Didn’t we vote him into power in Lagos? Did the fact that he’s a muslim affect the way he lead the state?

“They brainwash us into thinking these things (religion, tribe) really matter and then we wonder why we’re still here facing the same problems as a nation. We wonder why people still kill each other in places like Jos.

“Some of my mentors, clients, business partners and colleagues are from different tribes and religions than mine. What difference does it make? I don’t choose who to do business with based on if they’re from my village. I don’t choose who to associate with based on their religion,” Banky W said on Twitter.

But supporters of Osinbajo have disagreed with those questioning his emergence. Online commentator, Dipo Awojide, expressed confidence that the APC presidential candidate being an academic, would bring dynamism to governance, at the national level.

Awojide described the law professor as an upright Nigerian and a role model who has mentored scores of young men and women on ways of “building careers without stealing.”

Describing him as a man of deep intellectual persuasion, Awojide tweeted, “As a Nigerian and as a member of the RCCG, I’m proud of Prof. Osinbajo. No apologies.

“Call him Prof. Osinbajo, call him Pastor Osinbajo, call him all you like, but you know you can’t call him a thief and a looter.

“Being neutral in an era of misgovernance and misrule is unwise. You don’t have to join a political party, just vote for the best man.”

Online activist, Gbenga Sesan, also hailed Osinbajo’s emergence, stating that the Buhari-Osinbajo ticket would form a government that would “demonstrate the capacity for competitive action over mediocrity.”

According to Sesan, unknown to many, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria is much more than a pastor.

“He (Osinbajo) is a Professor of Law, reformer with a track record in Lagos and Abuja, and a fine administrator. I’ll say APC made a smart move and got a great man,” he tweeted.

Arguing that Osinbajo was a good choice, Abuja-based public affairs analyst, Waziri Adio, explained that the university teacher would add value to the Buhari presidential ticket.

He said that Osinbajo co-founded Integrity, a premier pro-accountability non-governmental organisation before he became Lagos Attorney-General. He has since been active in civil society after office.

“I think he’s a good choice. He’s calm, articulate, cerebral, and reform-minded. He complements GMB both on his strengths and weaknesses.

“True, Osinbajo is a pastor at Redeemed Church, but I do not think he was chosen only to appeal to that church. But his value on d ticket is because the South West will be the battleground in 2015,” he wrote on Twitter.

But the Presidency has insisted that President Goodluck Jonathan will coast home to victory in 2015. Special Assistant to the President on New Media, Reno Omokri, insisted that despite the opposition party’s alleged grandstanding it had yet to unveil its programmes.

‘I went to Shiloh to commit my 2015 to God’ – Timaya

Nigerian dance hall star, Timaya has revealed he also attended the annual programme of the Living Faith Church a.k.a Winners’ Chapel‘s year-ending event tagged ‘Shiloh.’

Speaking with NET in a recent interview, when asked what plans he has for 2015 after recently releasing his 6th album, Epiphany, the ‘Sanko’ singer said:

‘As I’m talking to you, my 2015 has been committed to God; I was at Sholoh, I went there to pray,’...

The Bayelsa-born singer also took to his Instagram account to share his excitement with the likes of Patoranking, Skales, Runtown and Wizzypro after attending the religious gathering, revealed his excitement after experiencing several breakthroughs, according to him.

Horror in Ekiti: Mum Murders Own Undergraduate Daughter (Photo)

A middle-aged woman in Ekiti, Mrs. Victoria Aina Adanikin, has allegedly murdered her own daughter, Miss. Oluwafunmilayo Rosaline Abosede Adanikin, a 300 level student of the Federal College of Education, Ikere-Ekiti.

Adanikin, who until the alleged murder of her daughter lived in Adanikin compound, beside Baba Ewenla house in Idamodu area of Emure-Ekiti, Emure Local Government Area of Ekiti State, was said to have put an end to the life of her 22-year-old daughter on the night of December 7 at their
apartment.

SunNews reports that residents and neighbours in the area said trouble started a few days earlier when Abosede began to confess to committing some evil deeds through diabolical means. She was said to have allegedly confessed to causing havoc in her family by killing relatives and spoiling the fortunes of others with some fetish powers she got from her mum.

An old woman, who is a neighbour to the family but who craved anonymity, told the reporter:
“Abosede had confessed to killing a relative of her mum as well as causing the misfortune that befell her father, Pa Titus Folorunso Adanikin, among other things before we heard that she had died that night. The incident caused a stir in the community, as the girl actually made the confessions in the full glare of the public.

She was taken to some churches for prayers and spiritual deliverance where she spent days confessing and disrupting the peace of everyone there. She was even said to have confessed to be in a spiritual cult in which she already had two babies. She said she would return to her home in the occult world whenever she lost her virginity here on earth. She also revealed that she had lost her virginity recently.”
Another resident, informed that the last church that Abosede was taken to rejected her and asked her mum to take her home.

The old woman continued:
Abosede’s confessions were reported to our traditional ruler, Oba Emmanuel Adebayo (a former Commissioner of Police) who immediately ordered that the girl and her mum should report at the palace so the matter could be looked into according to the traditions of the land.
The Oba sent his messenger with the royal staff, but Mrs. Adanikin lied to the bearers of the king’s message that the girl didn’t confess to committing anything. They said she only had some mental problems. But as soon as the king’s messenger left, she tied the hands and legs of the girl so as to tame her. Her neighbours said when it was late in the night, she began to beat the girl in the room where she had her locked up and eventually pushed her against some planks earlier kept there by her late father to make doors for his uncompleted building.
It was then that the girl lost consciousness. Adanikin then arranged for people who procured a coffin. She told the hired men to force her dying daughter inside the coffin for burial even when it appeared that the girl had not entirely given up the ghost. It was early the next day that Adanikin had her daughter buried. She buried the girl beside the uncompleted building of her late father, Pa Folorunso Titus Adanikin. The uncompleted building is in Mosafejo area of Emure-Ekiti. If you go there now, you will discover that there are two fresh graves there. One is for Pa Adanikin while the other is Abosede’s grave.”
One of the children of Mrs. Adanikin, Abiodun, who also spoke with the reporter, neither exonerated his mother from nor accused her of committing the act. He told the reporter over the phone:
“I would have preferred to see you before we talk about this but I’m not available now. It is true that members of our community, especially the neighbours in Idamodu area of Emure-Ekiti where my mum lives with other members of our family, are alleging that she killed our last born, late Miss. Abosede Adanikin, who until her death, was a year three student of the Ikere College of Education.
However, since it didn’t happen in my presence, I cannot say that our mum killed the girl. But I cannot also say that she didn’t do it. Where one is pushed to suspect a foul play is that my mum and her sister, both of whom were said to be with the Abosede during her travails, during the alleged confessions and her reported mental derailment, suddenly disappeared the morning after they allegedly buried the girl.
Given such circumstances, I think my mum owes us all some explanation, more so since the people alleged that she turned down the Oba’s invitation to the palace during the alleged confessions of my sister.
Right now, we don’t know where she is; we would have heard from her what really happened that night, leading to the sudden death and hasty burial of the girl.”
Meanwhile, a woman in the area, who described herself as a relative of Mrs. Adanikin, said Abosede’s mum was incapable of killing her daughter. Arguing that it was not just possible for a mother to snuff life out of her own daughter, especially when the daughter was said to be mentally disturbed and needing help, the woman said:
Aina (Mrs. Adanikin) is not capable of hurting a fly, let alone killing her own daughter. Please don’t believe what those people are saying. How is it possible for a mother who has suffered so much to bring up a child as fully-grown as Abosede to find it easy to kill her?
It is not true. It is not also true that she killed her daughter to prevent the girl from exposing their witchcraft as is being insinuated in some quarters. And as to why the woman just disappeared the next morning after the hasty burial of the deceased, she may just be afraid or too shocked and ashamed to face the people after the embarrassment that the mental imbalance displayed by the deceased has caused her. Anyone could do that. You needed to be in this town when the deceased went gaga, saying all sorts of despicable things against herself , her mum and the relatives. It had been a huge embarrassment to us all and a big disgrace also.”
While several calls were made to Oba Adebayo, a former commissioner of police, to get his reactions on the matter, were not picked, a source close to him confirmed that he indeed, sent for Mrs. Adanikin and her late daughter but was turned down. The source also said that the police would soon be brought in to investigate Abosede’s death.

Stella Damasus confirms relationship with Daniel Adenimokun,

In one of her most candid interviews ever, actress Stella Damasus opened up about her life, struggles, her first and second marriage & what we care most about, her relationship with Daniel Adenimokun. She said she didn’t steal him and implied that when she met him, he was already single.

Speaking with Emma Emerson of Golden Icons, Stella Damasus opened up about her relationship with Daniel. She said;

Let me put it this way. Let me help you hit the nail on the head. One of the comments I have seen consistently, over and over again, is ‘Stella snatches somebody’s husband’, ‘Stella the husband snatcher’, which is what has been going on. And I had sworn that I would never talk about it, or even listen or stress myself about this thing but I have decided to do this now, so that I end this once and for all.

First of all, let me paint a picture for you and you let me know what makes sense to you. When I looked up the word snatch or steal, ehh, let’s go to the dictionary. It means, forcefully taking something away from its original position. Forcefully. From its original position to another position. Something that does not belong to you. That’s what I gathered from the word snatch or steal.

So I looked at me, Stella, and I wondered to myself, how is it possible to go to somebody’s home, and take a man, and take his son, away from his home and say follow me. You are a man, and according to their story, he is happily married inside his home. With his family complete and I walk into that home, to forcefully take a man, abled bodied man, and a kid, away from somebody’s hand and you are there looking at me. How does that work?

Did they accuse me of using voodoo? Yes or no? They said no. Okay, did I put a gun on anybody’s head and remove somebody from somewhere? They said no. So logically, if people actually sit down and think about it intelligently, how do you snatch somebody from somebody and the person is there looking at you?

So when you see a man who has settled ties with a woman and decides to move on with his life and you feel that there is something in this man that you like and he likes you. I am not a kid. I am 36 years old. I am not about to start hiding myself. I was waiting for somebody to actually ask me this question, because all I have heard for the past two, three years are rumours. They said, blogs said, this said. Nobody has been bold enough to confront me and ask me. So I say, if I steal something from somebody, and the person is really the owner of the thing, you come and ask me, ‘you took something from me, give me back’.

But nobody was able to that. And I am like, if I meet an able bodied man that has left and moved on. That is not even in the same house with whoever and is not doing anything with whoever, and both parties have decided this thing is not going anywhere, and they have gone their separate ways, why is it that it easier for the world to blame the woman that the man has decided to end up with?

Why is it that it is always that woman that scattered that home? The two people that did things that nobody was there, nobody said something must have happened between this two people but it is always somebody else that is the problem. And I always say, I do not tolerate blaming anybody for your own problems. I have had problems.

After my late husband’s death, I got married again and the marriage didn’t work. After eight (8) months, it crashed. People didn’t hear much about it, why? We were both mature to understand that we came together, we knew that the thing was not working, instead of us to become enemies we will remain friends, let’s just let it go quietly. And we let it go quietly. I didn’t blame anybody else for doing it, he didn’t blame anybody else for doing it. So I am wondering, two people come together they go their separate ways, this one meets somebody, all of a sudden, it is that somebody that is the problem. Did anybody ever ask, what went wrong? Why would a man pick up his son and walk away from his marriage?

Was there anytime another woman was the problem until the man moved on with another woman? Nobody brought up Stella’s name, then all of a sudden, ‘oh he’s moved on with somebody else (snaps fingers), it must be her’. How? I am still waiting for somebody to come with proof to say ‘oh when they were still in marriage, when they were still in a house, you came and did this.’ So the reason why I don’t like talking about it is that, there are some things I would say to you and you would look at me like ‘oh wow’ but I don’t want to be derogatory, I don’t want to tow the line that other people have towed by talking bad about people.

I would never do that but the stories started coming. At first I ignored it, I just kept quiet, and then it was all over the place, Google, blogs, and I am like, one day, one day, I would tell my story. There’s a reason why I am respecting certain people, respecting certain legal issues that are going on. So there might be some things I may not hammer on, but whenever you hear this person snatched this person’s, you will ask the person, the person that they said was the original owner, what was the person doing when they were snatching the person from him or her? I don’t get it. Do you understand?

So I look at it, I am not ugly, I am not dumb. Of all the men in the world, I will now go and look for somebody else’s own and say this is the one I want. If he didn’t come out of it and say I want to be with you and you want to be with me, how? Why would I come and grab…? Am I that bad looking? Am I that old?”
