How Chaz B, popular Rhythm FM presenter died

A period of mourning has descended on members of staff, associates and friends of the Silverbird family, owners of Rhythm FM and Silverbird Television following the death of popular radio personality, Charles Bruce Chukuma.

Popularly known as Chaz B, the OAP was reported dead in the early hours of today, Saturday, November 22, 2014 with his death linked to kidney failure although the official cause of death has not been disclosed.

Confirming the death of the well loved life coach and presenter, Rhythm FM’s official twitter handle @937RhythmFm wrote: ‘RIP @ChazBLifeissues Can’t believe you’re gone.’ His colleague and equally popular entertainment personality, DJ Humility, also tweeted to confirm the tragic event via his Twitter account but without giving much details.

A former student of Kings College in Lagos, Chaz B held an Advanced Business Management Certificate from North Technical Education Centre in Florida and an Associate of Science Degree in Hotel, Travel and Tourism Management from the Miami Dade Community College (North), Florida, USA.

Before he left Nigeria in 1979, Chaz B worked within the entertainment world, working with his cousin and former Director General of Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) who is now President of Silverbird Group, Ben Bruce back in 1975 when Bruce owned the Fantasy Night Club in Yaba, Lagos.
He got involved in the entertainment business in the United States of America, running a limousine and bodyguard service which catered for the needs of a clientele made up of celebrities and VIPs. It was through that business that he encountered figures like Donald Trump, Renee, Celine Dion and Natalie Cole among other celebrities whom he related with them on a personal level.
Until his death, Chaz B’s hallmark show on radio, ‘Sharing Life Issues with Chaz B,’ which airs on the Rhythm radio network everyday apart from weekends at 6.15pm, earned him the Best On Air Personality award at the Nigeria Media Merit Awards in 2010.

The show is rated among the top shows on radio across the country and credited with having positively impacted of the lives of listeners in various ways.

Chaz is reported to have had a history of health problems related to kidney failure and was believed to have undergone a successful kidney transplant in 2012 after receiving a kidney donation from his wife.

His last tweet, dated October 29, 2014 reads: ‘Don’t look for God in the sky, look within your own body.’
