Police arrest final year student during cult initiation

A final year student of Rivers State University of Science and Technology, RSUST, has been arrested by the Police during a cult initiation ceremony near the back gate of the university.

Spokesman of the police in the state, DSP Ahmad Muhammad, said a graduate of Cross River State University was also arrested during the ceremony, adding that a Beretta pistol and three rounds of 9mm ammunition were among items recovered from them.

He said the Police also foiled what would have been a major cult clash between two rival cult groups at Okwuzi in Ogba Egbema Ndoni Local Government Area, noting that seven suspected cultists were also arrested.

He said: “Similarly, on same day at about 1:30p.m., information received had it that some suspected cultists were sighted with arms near the back gate of Rivers State University of Science and Technology, RSUST, Port Harcourt, initiating new members.

“A team of policemen stormed the area and arrested the suspects.”
Police further appealed to the public to assist them with useful information to fight crime to a standstill in the state.
