Top PDP Members Dump Party For APC In Lagos

A former Lagos State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Rafiu Jafojo and some chieftains of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in the state on Saturday defected to All Progressives Congress (APC), reports Vanguard.

The PDP members who defected said they left the opposition in the state because of lack of internal democracy, adding that they joined the APC because they see the party as a prosperous one.

“We defected based on lack of internal democracy in the PDP and our aim is winning the presidential election by APC,” said Dr Oluyomi Finnih, former Lagos State Chairman, Elders Council of PDP. Chief Tunde Daramola, former state secretary of the party also defected to the APC.

Chief Henry Ajomale, the State Chairman of APC welcomed the new members at the APC secretariat in the state. He assured them they have made a very good decision. He promised them that they will not experience what made them leave PDP in their new party, as the APC would be fair to them.

Also speaking, Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola (SAN) said that the party was happy to welcome the new members. He urged them to ensure that they put the party’s interest above their personal interest, promising them a level playing ground.

In its reaction to the defection of its top members, the state chapter of the PDP described it as welcome development for the party.

“The defection ceremony today is just a charade for people who have long left our fold,” said Gani Taofik, State Publicity Secretary of the PDP.

“Finnih and his group have long been out of PDP,” he told the News Agency of Nigeria.

“Finnih and his group had always worked against the PDP even when they were our members.

“Their roles of playing moles and fifth columnists in our party have been extinguished. They had no choice but to be part and parcel of the APC, their real party.”

Taofik said the exit door was wide open for other members of the party who are not ready to remain loyal and abide by its rules.
