Coalition of Oodua Self Determination
Groups (COSEG) has condemned petition written against the former
governor of Lagos state, Mr.. Babatunde Raji Fashola by the Civil
Society Network Against Corruption, (CACOL).
COSEG described the petition and continued
attack against Fashola as lacking in merit and a mischievous attempt,
which the group alleged is in concert with the PDP to discredit the
landmark achievements of the former governor.
In a press release signed by the COSEG
chairman and secretary, Comrades Ifedayo Ogunlana and Rasaq Olokoba
respectively, the group stated that CACOL and the PDP are working
together attempting to rubbish the achievement of Governor Fashola which
the group stated as impossible stressing that his good deed while in
office will outlive this generation.
According to COSEG, “The continued attack
on the person and government of Babatunde Fashola by CACOL is a
mischievous one. From our findings so far, we have found out that the
former governor is not corrupt but a man of high integrity, it’s
disheartening to read a disgusting petition from CACOL against a man who
worked tirelessly to move Lagos state forward in facets as corrupt”
The group however warned CACOL to desist
from its anti-Fashola stand by allowing posterity and the good people of
Lagos to judge him, adding that he served them meritoriously and not
agents of opposition party.
“We wish to warn CACOL to halt this hatred
for a man of impeccable character and discipline who deserves
commendation and encouragement so as to do more if opportunity beckons
in future. The group should henceforth desist from acting the PDP
scripts as all signs point to the fact that there is an understanding
between CACOL and PDP agents”, COSEG warned.
COSEG however urged the EFCC to “disregard
the jaundiced and highly sponsored petition as its main objective is to
mar Fashola’s good name and integrity”.
It could be recalled that CACOL, a
coalition of anti-corruption organizations in Nigeria, has petitioned
EFCC over the “questionable expenditures” of the administration of
Babatunde Fashola, the immediate past governor of Lagos State.
In a petition dated August 10 and addressed
to the EFCC Chairman, the group called for the probe of the
controversial N78 million spent on the personal website of Mr. Fashola
There was outrage last weekend after
analytic firm, BudgIT, revealed that Mr. Fashola approved, before he
left office, N78.3 million from the state’s treasury for an upgrade of
his personal website.
The contract for the refurbishment of the
website was awarded to Info Access Plus Limited by the office of the
Chief of Staff to the former governor. The company, however, denied
receiving the amount, insisting that it was paid N10 million.
