Xavi Confirms He Will Join Al Saad at the End of the Season

Legendary midfielder Xavi Hernandez have announced he will leave Barcelona at the end of the season and move to Qatari side Al Sadd.

The Spaniard, 35, owns the record for the most title by a Barcelona player (23) in seventeen seasons, spanning 764 record appearances. He has won eight La Liga titles, six Spanish Super Cup titles, and two Spanish Cups, as well as three Champions League, two Uefa Super Cups and two Club World Cup titles.

Xavi has also won the World Cup and two European Championships with La Roja.

“Before we start with the questions, I’d like to confirm that I will be leaving Barcelona at the end of the season,” the midfielder opened his press conference ahead of the final game of the Primeira season at Camp Nou against Deportivo La Coruna.

“It’s a definitive decision and a difficult one. It has not been an easy decision to make. I spoke with my family and we decided together. it is the right time to leave. I need a change of scenery.”

As well as playing for Al Saad, Xavi will also act as an ambassador for the Qatari club for the next four years.

Xavi Retired from International Football on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 to Focus on Barcelona’s Quest in the La Liga.

“There is an exciting project in Qatar and Al Saad. I have signed a contract to play for two years and I have a very important project at the Aspire Academy. I can train there as a coach and a sporting director,” Xavi further explained.
The midfield maestro could yet add the Copa del Rey and the Uefa Champions League winner’s medal to his cabinet, with Barcelona set to face Athletic Bilbao and Juventus in the final of the respective championships on 30 May and 6 June.
